I've just arrived at the City of Hollow Eyes, and everything appears shrouded in shadows. To use a Planescape reference, it feels like I've been transported to the Gray Wastes of Hades. I know it's not supposed to be like this, because I found a Let's Play on Youtube showing the city, and it appears relatively normal -- a bit overcast, perhaps, but nothing like this. It's not night-time either; this screenshot was taken at 10 a.m. in-game time.

I've tried exiting and re-entering the city, I've reloaded savegames, I've restarted the game, I've even rebooted my computer, and nothing changes. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, do you know a fix for it?

Still don't know what caused the problem, but I managed with a bit of trial and error to find a solution. As far as I can tell, the glitch only occurs if you go directly from the Kellid barbarian camp to the City of Hollow Eyes without stopping to rest on the way. (Resting *in* the camp by paying gold to Dug the merchant doesn't count.)
Correction: Apparently going to the City of Hollow Eyes after visiting *any* other location, without stopping to rest in-between, will cause the shadows to appear.
Further update: I've now discovered that when you enter the cyclops tomb and then re-emerge from it, the world has turned gray.

Does nobody know a fix for this bug?
I suspect it's a problem with drivers or hardware, because I've not seen this issue mentioned elsewhere, and have not gotten it myself. Looks a little like during storms or heavy rain, when the vision is also quite distorted. The attached screenshot is small so it's hard to tell much for sure.

Suppose the best bet, if they still look at bug reports, is to hit up F11 in-game when you see it, and send a bug report directly to Owlcat. A savegame and screenshot is automatically then sent to Owlcat, together with whatever you write in the text field.

Because this is a pretty huge area (wish there were more...), perhaps it has to do with running out of RAM? In very long sessions I can get into such problems, and have at times seen graphical artefacts or the sound acting up.

Would it make any difference if it were bigger? I can assure you that it's not rainfall; I know what that looks like, and this is something different.

I didn't remember the procedure for sending bug reports directly from in-game, but I emailed them around the same time that I posted here, and I haven't gotten any reply from them. I expect they're too busy working on Wrath of the Righteous. I suppose it couldn't hurt to try again, but I don't want to put off playing the game while I wait to see if they respond. I'm probably going to just have to make sure I clear the whole area before I enter the tomb.

Do you know of a way that I can check to see if that's the case? And is there anything I can do about it, beside buying more RAM?

The only other graphical issue I've had is that sometimes the bodies of slain enemies get really stretched out and distorted into weird shapes. It only happens in certain locations and I haven't detected any rhyme or reason as to which ones. I've also had some sound issues in the past, but not for a while now. In any case, I think this is an unrelated issue, because the conditions that trigger it are too predictable.

ETA: I spoke too soon. I just checked my email, and there are a couple of messages from the Owlcat team that arrived earlier today.

What did Owlcat say, any solutions or advice forward?

I'm on Linux so system programs like that is different. But if I recall correctly, you can check this with Task Manager, which I think you can bring up by hitting Ctrl + Shift + Esc. That will tell something about how much RAM different programs and games use.

I suppose the best thing right now is to start up the game in that zone and see if that helps. Because going to many different zones will take up more and more RAM. On my end, in very long sessions, the game can occupy 9-10 GB of RAM. That is mighty much.

Have seen those distorted bodies too, but that's probably just an oddity with the game engine or something, and not related to the issue you are facing here. Somebody bodies keep spinning a bit upon death, and I've also seen them fly off-screen (the loot is still left behind, but the body is gone).
Nothing concrete yet, but it's only been a couple of days after all. They asked me to send an in-game bug report (which I did), and they asked if I'd verified the integrity of the game files. When I asked them how I could do that, they sent instructions for doing it in Steam, so of course I emailed them back to tell them that I have the GOG version. That's the last communication I've had with them so far.

I know how to use the task manager to see RAM usage; what I don't know is if there's a way to change the amount of RAM that a program uses.

Don't think this is something the end user can do. The program/game will ask the OS for more RAM when needed, and typically ask for more than it needs (to avoid lots of such requests), and depending a bit on garbage collection and memory leak, RAM usage will slowly increase over time. If you for example have 'only' 8 GB, that can be an issue with a game like this I think. Because I regularly see it use at least that much. Maybe even 16 GB is an issue (even more so on Windows), because naturally other programs need a decent chunk of RAM too, and Windows eats up a lot as well.

But this is just a theory of mine. It may not be memory related at all. It seems like the most likely candidate though, considering I've seen some graphical artifacts at times when I've played for 5+ hour sessions and the game can take up 9-10 GB of RAM.

Edit: Can't recall what map this was in, but this is supposed to be slight light effects. Got a little messed up after playing for hours and hours :D

I tried reinstalling the game, and it *seems* to have fixed the problem (fingers crossed).
