Having recently finished my first complete playthough, I was somewhat surprised at the fact that companion romances do not seem to be reflected in any of the end game content or ending slides. My player character was in a romance with Valerie while also carrying on a separate relationship with Kanerah (a fact Valerie never commented on in any way). Both companion quests were completed, and the Valerie romance had proceeded past the point where she gifts the player a shirt. The game version was 2.05c later patched to 2.06, no mods, and all DLC.

In chapter 7, the game seemed to think the player had strictly been romancing Nyrissa, and made zero mention of Valerie at all. End game slides for Valerie also had no indication of the relationship; oddly, they claimed she was considering allying with the Hellknights, a bizarre ending for a relationship with my paladin character and his LG kingdom that sided with Darven in that conflict.

Kanerah's companion quest concluded with her leaving the party, also with no mention of her relationship with the player. This occurred regardless of whether the Forefather was destroyed or not. And the end game slides also made no mention of the affair, despite a dialogue occurring after the player's coronation in which he can indicate he is interested in making Kanerah his queen.

So I guess the question here is whether I simply missed some critical content or whether at least some of the romance system is buggy.

I think part of the problem with PK's relationship system is that it seems to try to at least partially emulate BG2-style "lovetalk" dialogues. The issue with these is that they only seem to trigger when the party rests in a zone. If the party rests on the world map or within the capital, they never do so.

Kannerah's romance is a secret romance with no meaning to anyone else. To have any significance it has to be intricately linked to the forefather's quests and/or Kallike's romance.

Valerie's romance is exclusive and has to go all the way to marriage.

Nyrissa's romance is exclusive and has a high count, so may trump others with the possible exception of Valerie.
