Since there are a lot of timed quests in this game, some with hidden timers, some with shown timers it is important to consider how often you should rest.

But it is not obvious at all how long resting actually takes, which can be very frustrating.
What i gathered so far:

- Resting in a safe location (Trading Post or Throne Room) takes 8 hours
Thats about all i am sure of ;)

I always thought that for outside resting it is essentially Hunting Time + 8 Hours. But that is definetely not the case. For example in the are where you fight the Stag Lord. You cannot hunt or cook there, but resting still took 23 hours! How is that determined?
Does it have to do with how much healing you require vs. how much healing your party is capable of? Lot's of DnD games have an option to rest-til-healed. And the time depends on how much damage to heal, and how capable the healers are (how many rests they need to get everybody to top health).
No, there is not an option rest until healed. If there is one, i missed it, and then it is not on by default.
That option also would not really make sense, especially in a dungeon, since you need rations for resting, which are quite heavy and therefore limited if you do not want to encumber the party.

But that leads me to another question i forgot:
Even if i have the rest options set to go hunting (where possible of course), sometimes, if i have rations available, the game decides to use those, instead of hunting for a while longer. Screwing me up when finally going into the dungeon, since by then i often do not have any (or enough) rations left.

In the managing screen, where you assign your characters to hunt, camouflage and guard, there is a small check box to select wether you use rations or not. If you use rations, you will rest a fixed amount of time, 8 hours I think, and get 0 to 6 rations, depending on your hunters' skill. If you don't use rations, you will hunt untill you get 6 rations, which may add up to 15 hours to your rest time, depending on your hunters' skill.
Well, i always have this set to not use rations. But still i sometimes get something like hunting yielded 1 ration, and the rest is taken from the actual rations.
Might be a bug (as if there are not enough ;))
