Since GOG has the right to PG2 and PG3d. Will we see any of the other SSI general games like allied general, fantasy general, Star general?
Great idea! I'd like Pacific General or Scorched Earth mission pack :)

Allied General was not so good (not bad, but Panzer is more fun), and Star General is bad (more a False Opera than a Space Opera feeling). Fantasy General is great.
Allied General has no Dos version and the Windows version is allergic to NT (includes XP and later) I know of a fan project to get it running on modern systems but it's not supported by SSI.

Star General is indeed a poor member of the franchise. I toyed a bit with it but it has nothing on PG or FG

Panzer General is great

Fantasy General is great too

Pacific General has a nice twist with the naval units. I liked PG and FG better though.

PG2 felt a bit like a dumbed down version of PG to me.

PG2 was better than PG1 IMO. They cut much nonsense from orginal PG. It's possible to coordinate unit attacks with an artillery and so on.

I guess I have a special copy of Vista...AG runs fine on it.

Yep also recon and artillery units are no longer a waste of space in PG2- better equipt tables-love the leaders too.

For allied general google PGForever- its included- works on everything-

How about the other wargames from SSI? Western Front, War in the Pacific, USAAF and Warship to name a few. They also had some decent CRPG games the were not under the AD&D license.
Do you know if Peoples General is available somewhere or coming to gog? IMO its as good as PG2...
I actually liked Star General a lot. It's a great game as long as you don't expect it to be in the way the previous games of the 5 Star series, are.
There are some scenarios but the bread and butter of the game is the custom War games. Basically they are 4X games which are focused more on the battles than other aspects. There is still plenty of economy, diplomacy (ok diplomacy is meh), building of both armies and fleets and exploring the galaxy and conquering other races. I like it a lot.
Just make sure you have the game patched.
I still play it from time to time (virtual machine).
Oh, and the music is awesome.
I would love to see PG1 and STar General..

Why has nobody put People's General/Dynasty General (they're both the same, named depending on region) in their lists?

It's the only General game in a modern warfare scenario with contemporary military hardware (even some of it still in development at the time the game came out, like the Comanche helicopter, which ultimately never saw the field).

It's in the wishlist, but hasn't accrued even 50 votes, yet... so go, go, GO! ;)

I'll add my vote.

Some one said there is a group trying to fix the 5star games to work with the newer OS': any sites you can post here so I can check on them? Please:)
GOG could name any price if Pacific General could be officially re-released. Love that game. Of PG, PG for DOS runs well in DOSBox, but PG for Windows doesn't run so well in Win7 emulation. Can here the intro movie sound, nor the explosions. Can hear the music (it's a midi file) and the narration though. Haven't tried AG, and still have to install it on an XP system so it can be copied over. BTW, you have install PG for Win (and i'm assuming AG) on a XP or lesser system, then move those functional files (folder, WinG32, etc) to Win7, from there insert the CD or emulated CD and it will work (san's the sound issue above). I'll post more if I make progress. Can't seem to fixate on the issue, when I'm so happy pounding Poles, running over Russians, LOL!
Follow up -- Here's an snapshot of my settings. Found that anything lower than XP SP 2 or XP SP 3 doesn't work. 95/98, etc. I have had the 'cant save file error once on XP SP 2 emuation, but not on XP SP 3. Haven't determined the difference. Also, the WinG32.dll can be obtained pretty much anywhere and needs to go in to your windows\system, system32, and SysWOW64 folders.

I found a People's General site that you can download the original game with some nice modifications and extra campaigns and it runs with my Windows 7. Best of all, it's free!
