aldo: Game not working on windows 8 , tried all combatibility settings but dont work
I have windows 8 and can play by going to my control panel and clicking on the "Play games for earlier versions of windows" and running the game as an administrator...think it runs as admin automatically when you click on the above...hope this helps. But I am having a problem with my aircraft not firing/attacking...

Can anyone tell me why my aircraft stop firing/attacking all of a sudden...?

Also, I did a virus scan on my PZ2 and all of a sudden when I click the icon on the desktop to play it tells me that it wont play because the file "SMACKW32.DLL" is missing and I have to try to reinstall...how the heck do I do that? Just download the game again from the site after uninstalling or don't uninstall and just download or try to download that specific file or just give up because I have had nothing but problems with this game on Windows!

Check the weather. If it's snowing, no air attacks are possible. I think you can attack under heavy rain, but not 100% sure about it either.

From the manual: "The number of strength points used for attack is also halved [...] by overcast weather for air units (air units may not attack in rain or snow)." Except the attacking unit has the leader All Weather Combat.

Sounds like your anti-virus program didn't like some old packaging methods and put the file into quarantine.

The program consistently crashes on Windows 8.1 64-bit. I've tried the following independently, one by one:

- downloading and installing DirectX 9
- fixingthe compatibility properties of PANZER2.exe and PG2UK220.exe in the control panel
- changing the compatibility properties of PANZER2.exe and PG2UK220.exe to Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
- changing the compatibility properties of PANZER2.exe and PG2UK220.exe to windows administrator
- changing d3dx9_42.dll to d3dx9_42.dll.sav
- changing ddraw.dll.intel to ddraw.dll.intel.sav

After each fix attempt, I've tried running the program from both PANZER2.exe and PG2UK220.exe. I can usually play most of one half turn of the first round of the Blitzkrieg Campaign. Then the error is:

PANZER2.EXE has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I've also tried restarting my computer and reinstalling the software. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I found another patch that works now. For some reason the forum won't allow me to post a link, but search for "PG3DE250.exe" and you should be able to find it. I saw it on panzercentral.

Hello,

I downloaded GOG's Panzer General 2 and it continues to crash during the first turn of the game. I have downloaded the DirectX from Microsoft, removed the d3dx9_42.dll file, and downloaded the PG3DE250 patch. When I attempt to open the PG3DE250 patch, it says my SMACKW.dll file is missing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Jason
