After installing Panzer Elite, I tried using the included "3D_Control_Center.exe" program to get the game to run in a window on Windows 7. But after I select "Windowed mode, " click OK, and launch the game, it still only runs in full screen mode. Is there a way to fix this? Or is there a special mod I need to install?

There are two parts to PE. The first part is the user menu. The second part is the simulation. Checking windowed mode in 3D config sets the simulation to windowed mode. To set the menu to windowed mode, open data\PE_MENUSYSTEM.INI, find the line 'windowed=no' and change it to 'windowed=yes'. When you run the menu in windowed mode, you also need to set your desktop to 16bit color mode.

So there's no way to get the gameplay window to run in windowed-mode without having to reset Windows 7 to 16-bits? Is there another way to get windowed-mode to work without having to change system settings?
The simulation side will run in windowed mode and 32 bit desktop color. Set windowed mode in 3D config, then launch a mission from the full screen menu. The simulation will switch to a 640x480 window and run.

The user menu does not use directX and was not written to run in 32 bit color mode. If you try and run the user menu in 32 bit windowed, it will look like the attached image. If you know where to click, it will work.

Another option would be to run PE in a 3rd party emulator. I know the Europen Air War community is doing it, but I forget which program they are using.

Yeah, I had that same problem with the attached image as well. It's a shame that there isn't a mod that can make the gameplay run in windowed-mode around 1024x768 or larger. I guess I'll just have to use the full-screen mode instead. But thanks for your input about the config files.
I can change it in PEx, but I've never seen the need.
