9800, did the fix (shut off the dr thing) still the same. When i started game it had some settings, i have a 4k setup so picked that and max texture and view. I think thie may be the issue but the setttings wont come up again, so i cant downgrade any of them settings, Any ideas? win10 9800
I do not know anything about win10, but I know several people who play PESE on win10. I am not part of GOG or any of there development teams.

Verify that the standard game plays before trying any mods.

Panzer Elite needs to write to your HDD. Make sure it has permission to write to the HDD. Most issues with this can be avoided by installing Panzer Elite outside of the programs folder (Example: C:\PE).

Crashing after selecting mission start means that the game's DirectX rendering engine crashed.
Find the file PE\data\desertfoxlog.txt and see if anything is listed.

Run PE\3D_Control_Center.exe. Make sure that it can find your video memory. Make sure you are not selecting any 32 bpp settings for rendering unless you are using a PEx based mod. 1024 x 768 16bpp should be the most error free, but I have no idea if some modern hardware do not support this resolution.

If you do not see any error in 3D_Control_Center, try setting it to run the game in software rendering.

If your video card has more then 2 Gigs of video memory then the original PE 3D_Control_Center.exe will highlight the video memory available in red. If it shows in red, I have a 2+ gigs version hosted at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzxyVz4K3gyDcndkdmcxSlFlTzQ . I do not know if my fixed version of the file was ever added to the master files. Use the 3D_Control_Center.exe while testing the original game. The other file gives the option for a longer view range and 32 bpp. Neither of those are supported in the original game.

This fixed the problem for me. Just pick the 1024x768 resolution. I have Win 10 with 4k display
