I've attempted to play so-called "simulation" games on the PC a few times,
and hated them. Actually, hated is not a strong enough word.
On the other hand, I loved what I considered sim games on my ancient
Sega Genesis: M1A1 Abrams, YF22 Fighter, LHX attack copter, and a sub game
whose title I have forgotten.
Those games were UTTERLY INTUITIVE and friendly, friendly, friendly!
PC sim games are more like some snob jerk ahole who says "figure it out yourself!"
Will I hate this game? Is there a Demo I can play?

There is a demo you can try not sure how easy it will be to get it running though.

I didn't care for this game. I played Panzer Front on the PS1 which had similar graphics but was a much better tank sim. In Panzer Elite, when your tank starts moving it takes off like a car, not some 30 ton, diesel motor driven behemoth. For some reason you have a multiple dot smoke trail that follows your tanks shots like some bad Intellivision game. Your shells don't drop, but travel in a straight line. Interface is needlessly complicated. These are just some of the examples of the many numerous thinks that keep it from being one of those great games.

Find Panzer Front on PS1 instead, you will thank me for years to come.

T-34vTiger was good too.... but real buggy.

Have you even played Panzer Elite? It sounds like you are talking about the arcadey Panzer Elite Action because the tanks in this are rather slow and do not take off like "cars".
I have the right game, I bought it from GOG... I didn't like it though. Just my opinion, I can see quite a few people liked it, thats why I bought it. But after playing Panzer Front for the PS1, a game that has almost the exact same graphics, I found this game to be so lacking in every other aspect I can't help but to be completely disappointed with it. Wish it wasn't, because good tank games are hard to come by...

maybe when my disappointment is over I can go back and give the game more of a chance.
Well I was surprised at the game being much better than I expected. I got it cos of the price drop and from loving the old tank games of the past. I do agree that the tanks can turn and move at the speed of a shopping cart ;) to some degree, but I think part of that is the speed of todays machines.. I still recommend this game and the mainy mods provided!.. gonna be busy playing this on the weekend ;).

If your tank drives and turns like a shopping cart, you need to set PE to run in Windows98 compatibility mode or turn off your Intel hyper-threading.

The easiest fix would be to try running PE in Windows98 compatibility mode. You can do this, by right-clicking on the desktop PE icon. Choose the compatibility tab at the top of the properties window that opens and then set to run in Win98 compatibility mode. click apply and close.
the game was programed with DX5.0 for Win98. Fast processors require win98 compatability mode.
