This is a game that I remember fondly from my childhood, and I'd like to play it again. Thing is, I actually still have the CD, but the game doesn't run very well (it's been a while since I tried it, so I don't remember exactly what problems I encountered). So my question is: Does the GOG version work any better than the CD version? GOG always had the policy of making sure these old games are playable on modern computers, but I'm under the impression that they haven't been too consistent in this regard lately.

Hi therealtoe.

Just purchased Pandemonium from the promo and I am very satisfied with it. Pandemonium is also to me a game of my childhood and I remember a lot of cool moments (frustrating as well with the countless bottomless pits:D) with it.

I share your opinion that GOG doesn't handle all its games with the touch they deserve, but with Pandemonium they deliver the game well. The important facts are that all the CD tracks are in 320 kbps format and the game is shipped with nGlide wrapper. With it you can increase the game resolution even above full-HD resolution (the wrapper retains the 4:3 aspect ratio as well), which to me is absolutely amazing. The obvious catch with this nGlide is that you can download it yourself and apply to the game. In my 2008 Windows Vista machine the game runs with a normal framerate without any stutterings of whatnot.

At the end of the day GOG Pandemonium installs fast, runs fast and hasn't lost its charm. Go grab it from the promo!:)

Oops, forgot about this! Promo is over, oh well. Gonna give the CD version another go, this time with nGlide (thanks for the tip!). If that doesn't satisfy, I'll get the still cheap GOG version anyway.

Although now that I think about it, I'm not quite sure I wanna go anywhere near those bottomless pits.

Okay, so I got around to trying the game now, and it does actually run properly. Sadly, however, I can't get nGlide to work. I've installed it, but the game tells me that "no 3DFX card seems to be installed on [my] system" (this is during the installation of the game, for some reason, so I doubt this message can be encountered in the GOG version with its standard GOG installer). Is there anything I can do about this? Would it work with the GOG version?

Fun fact: My 360 controller actually worked in this game straight out of the box. :P

Just copy PANDY3.EXE to your game's directory and then run that. It should pick up nGlide's 3dfx, at least it did for me.
