Hello,
I keep running into orange floaty souls that persist in the world and do not come from monsters, but rather seem to already exist in the game world on their own.
I'm not sure of what they're for or how I might be able to use them, as walking over them seems to do nothing.
Anybody know?
They give you health.
I just started playing yesterday, so I don't know how much health they give, but I've noticed that you can only pick them up if your health is below 100.
according to my knowledge there's only a few types of souls
green souls, usually from normal enemies and counts as 1
red souls , from tougher enemies like the raging skeletons with their shotguns and the heavy executioners.
The only similar thing that is orange is in the alistar level where you need to stand inside it and take damage.
A stony creature will pop up coming to aid you.
Not sure if they qualify as souls (they're not counted as such at least) but the floating orange sparks are healthpacks. I think the precise amount of HP they give varies, but you can only pick them up below 100 HP and they won't heal you above that. Additionally, red + green sparkly things give 100 HP instantly and go up to 200 HP. (I think you can't pick them up if you have more than 200 HP already)

hmmz , it depends on the difficulty.
When you change between levels in a map you have to pass a big red sign.
When passing this you get fully healed again. On higher fidfficulty this is only a small amount.
red +5 and green +1 souls keep counting up
the orange sparkly things are indeed healthpacks healing about 25
then the superpack will heal you 100 extra to a maximum of 250
to be clear some pics included

Right you are. And if I well remember, there is no healing after passing the red signs on the hardest dificulty, nor do the monsters drop souls. You only heal through the "health pack" souls that already are placed in the level. Some are actually at places that trigger secret areas in the level.
