The game freezes during the intro video upon trying to start a new game. I haven't been able to actually play the game yet.... Any fixes for this???

I too have this same problem!!

it will play just fine on my laptop. it is a intel core 2 duo 2 Ghz with intel video and 2 gig mem

but my desktop all the videos lock up! its a intel core 2 duo 2.8 Ghz with Nvidia 240GT and 4 gig of mem

both computers have the same every thing else.

I have to 3 finger salute and end-task it :(

all my drivers are up to date.. ( I check once a week )

Same problem here using an up to date gaming PC even with the same graphics card displayed on the start videos.

I did:

- Turn off second monitor in nvidia control panel
- Start, type in "cmd", rightclick on it, "run as administrator", then type in "start /affinity 1 Painkiller.exe". It will find the path regardless where you are. This starts the game with one core only.

One of this two is the solution, don't know which one yet. Time to PLAY.

Oh, and to stop tearing, activate "triple buffering" and "vsync" in nvidia control panel.

I would go for a broken file that can't be loaded. You should doing a disk checking using the windows tool, installing the game on a different partition or drive, or download the installer again.If none of that works, it also could be due to a problem with the RAM. You can use HirensBoot or a Linux Live CD to check the RAM

Thread resurrection time!

Same problem in Painkiller: Overdose. Game freezes randomly during the intro video. Also, if I don't end-task the process immediately it locks up. The only "solution" is to rename or delete the Movies folder and eliminate the videos from the game. The videos can still be watched outside of the game.

I tried to change the bink32.dll file with newer but then the game just crashes. Tried to run it with only basic windows codecs, then with codec pack but no luck.

Anyway, it's not game-breaking - game still works quite well, but it's a damn shame. :/

Oh and here are my PC specs:

Windows 7: Ultimate 64bit
Core2Duo E4600 @ 2.4GHz
4GB DDR 2
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti

Yep. No help there for this problem as far as I can see. Also installed Powermad. Sped up loading times and disabled logo videos but did nothing for the freezing intro.

It sounds like it could be a codec issue. Have you tried installing some video codec packs?

Yea. Used a "K-Lite" codec pack and "CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack". No luck.

EDIT: And I tried to se CPU affinty for Painkiller to use only one core. Didn't help.

Try to set windows xp sp2 (or sp3) compatibility mode;

remember that compatibility mode break all nvidia options from nvidia control panel
