I'm one of the fps gamers that spend way too much time tweaking the gameplay in fps games by fiddling with console commands. Especially in multiplayer, to fully maximise the performance I can get out of the game engine.
This is something I would want to do in Painkiller as well, but apparently I can't. The console won't appear for me in the Gog.com version of the game, and it's honestly starting to annoy me a little. I paid for the full game, and got a gimped version with no console.
Someone know how I can force the console out? I can't seem to find the appropriate lines in the config files.

Try pressing the F1 key as this can also be used to bring up the console in painkiller black edition.
Keep in mind though that the administrator of painkiller servers online can actually disable client side console when you are on their server. So if F1 doesn't work on one server go to another and try it or try it out in the games menu.
Places attempted so far:
New server.
Other people's servers.
Singleplayer.
Menu.
Keys used: Whole damned Qwerty keyboard.
Result: Bouncing, shooting, menus and so on. No console.
Does your console work fine?
check your config.ini
and make sure Cfg.ClientConsoleLockdown = false
if it says true change it to false.
You can also try /toggleconsole try that both in game with the chat or at the menu.
Also is your regional settings set to US english or something else? If you change it to US english if it is something else the ` = ~ keys might work.

Like I've said, I've used every damned key on the keyboard, so the regional settings are void and pointless. All the other things are also void and pointless, as I've checked them out repeatedly.
Again, does your Console work?
I don't have the gog version of painkiller I have the retail version. It did work on my version of the game but that doesn't nessecarily mean that the gog version won't work. It could be the case but until you try all other options its not definate.
If you don't want me to sugest things you have already tried you need to be very clear in what you have done.
"I can't seem to find the appropriate lines in the config files." Does not mean you have tried changing Cfg.ClientConsoleLockdown = false to me, it means you had a look and couldn't find anything.
I advise you contact Gog support as my help appears to be "void and pointless", perhaps they can help you.

Very well, if you have such a thin skin that you take offense at posts like that I have very little use for you. Thank you for the attention so far, buhbye.
Now, are there anyone with an actual Gog version of painkiller (as that's the version that's currently being discussed, not retail) that has managed to get their console working?

I wouldn't say Ralakk has a thin skin, he expressed a legitimate concern about the limited information you have supplied so far and your unwillingness to listen to his suggestions. Your response, however, shows you to have quite a thin skin.
In answer to your question, the console works just fine on the GOG version in multiplayer. I just logged into one of the public multiplayer servers and was able to open and use it by hitting the "~" key. There is actually no difference between the GOG version of the game and the retail box version, other than the installer and the lack of DRM/copy protection.
You need to relax. You might come off as arrogant to some people who were trying to help you. And that's not very flattering.
Anyway, the key you are looking for is probably tilde. I presume your keyboard is Norwegian, so the key you need to press is marked as '41' on this picture. At least that's the key my console is binded to, and I'm using a Danish keyboard.
And yes, my console works just fine. There is no problem with the GOG version.

If pressing Tilde was the solution, I would hardly have had to make a post about it, nor point out (twice) that I had tried every single key on the keyboard. In both Multi and Singleplayer. Thanks for at least confirming that the console isn't somehow removed in the Gog version.
Looks simply like I'll have to go through every single keybind in the config files instead.
As to whether or not I come off as arrogant, I really can't be bothered to even consider. When the advice provided is on the level of mouthbreathing "which one's the any key?" users, it serves as little more than an insult.
Anyway, /thread. I'll figure this one out myself, or consult a few communities I know will immediately assume they're not dealing with dimwits.
If you give out as little useful information on those communities as you provided here, plus respond to honest attempts to help like an asshole, then good luck getting that help anywhere. The fact is, the console simply works for the rest of us by pressing the tilde key (or whatever key happens to be in in position 41 as Duffi said), so, without any evidence to the contrary, it really looks like this one is a simple case of PEBKAC to me.
I had the same problem with the GOG version. I fixed it by changing my language setting in the vista language bar.
My laptop has a US keyboard, but i had it set to English (United Kingdom) and the console wouldn't toggle. Changing it to English (US) fixed it. (though the keyboard was set to US in both modes... weird. )
If not running with the language bar, then i guess fiddling with some language/keyboard settings in the Control Panel might work.
However I could still ONLY toggle the console in the menu, not in gameplay. Not sure if that is how it's supposed to work or not.
