Switch between integrated and dedicated graphics?
Thanks for the reply - I have to admit I do not understand it, being not an IT expert.

I played PacGen since 1997 on various PCs, I thank all of them had a dedicated graphics card. I have not played it for years and wanted to install it on my current PC when I read news about this relaease (expecting that it would adjust as necessary to the Win 8.1 environment).

Do you mean I have to to switch anything in the installer concerning graphic cards? Where?
You can try to got into Nvidia System Settings > 3D Settings (ignore the name) > Program settings. Here you could add PacGen and try it with the Nvidia or with integrated graphics if that processor has them.

PacGen runs here (also Nvidia and Win 8.1) without issues. Have you tried shutting down all other software (even in the info tray) before launching PacGen?
Thanks for the hints

PRG added in Nvidia setting
Other PRG closed, including virus scan and firewall (network, loudspeaker left only)
unfortunately no improvement.

As you seem to have a similar system that of course increases my motivation to have it done

Just to confirm: do you run 64 bit or 32 bit system? I think to remember that when I acquired my current PC with 64 bit one source in the net wrote, that this ends my chances with PacGen. In other forums opinions seem to be devided, if e.g. under W10 PacGen can run .

Checking compatibility settings: what have you done there? Win 95 - starting as administartor - colours?

One thing I realized: When starting, the GOG icon eith the plane usually appears in the task list. Only after a new installation with a direct start from that the old PacGen icon appears.
The system it runs here has an Intel i7-4700MQ and a Nvidia 765M and runs Windows 8.1 64-bit. There is no second screen attached. I didn't activate any compatibility settings for the GOG version of the game. If I launch the game, it alters at least the screen resolution (maybe this is where it fails for you). But by default, I launch it with DxWND to get it into windowed mode and virtually slow down the cpu (game speed remains unchanged) so the laptop fan doesn't have to work that much.
I have the same issue. Administrator permissions and compatability modes provided by windows 8 are ineffective. The program launches and then displays the debug/end window.
The default directory for GOG Galaxy installations is in the Program FIles (x86) path. I changed the default installation path in GOG Galaxy settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the game in new path. The game now starts and runs.

Hello ForestWhite, could you please tell me what alternate location you installed Pacific General to, that worked? I can think of some alternate locations, but I wanted to hear from you on exactly what worked. Thank you.
