For Overcooked 2, I already have a save from the Steam version that I was hoping to transfer to the GOG version so I don't have to replay all of the previous levels just to get back to where I already am. However, trying to copy the files from the Steam installation results in a corrupted data message when starting up the game. Any way to make the saves compatible?

For Windows users, the saves are in:
C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\LocalLow\Team17\Overcooked2

For Steam, the files are in a folder with a long number string, which I am assuming is the SteamID for the account. For GOG, the files are in a folder labeled "Saves". The files in both folders appear to be the same format. But again, copying files from the SteamID folder to the GOG Saves folder results in a corrupted data message.
I would have wanted to play this game couch co-op with a friend, alternatively at my home and at her home.

I transferred the save files from her computer to mine but when I launched the game, it said the files were corrupted.
So... even in the same platform, the save files seems to be not compatible... this is a shame.

I didn't investigate the issue so far but it seems to be a profile issue because the folder in C:\Users\...\AppData\LocalLow\Team17\Overcooked2\Unity\local.fa9b92e3adcf1c14a809fbd66253e0a8\Analytics\Archiv edEvents si not the same in my computer and hers.

Hey,

I really liked the game so I bought the gourmet edition on GOG after already owning the base game on steam, and encountered the same issue. I researched it further and found out that they encrypt the savegame files with the User ID, presumably to prevent you from sharing savegames online, but I find it really wrong on their side to implement such a thing, especially on GOG which is a platform for DRM-free games. I think players should have the right to copy their savegames between users and platforms, so I wrote a tool to circumvent it:

Hello man,
First of all, thanks a lot for looking at this and making this tool. It took me some time to understand what to do exactly with it.
For the others you need to download the zip with the .exe, and launch it from a CMD command prompt, and for that you need to dowload this : https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-core/thank-you/runtime-desktop-3.1.10-windows-x64-installer.

I almost finished the game back when there wasn't any DLC, can't know which version but the save was directly in the \Saves folder. I downloaded a recent steam version with all DLCs, not detecting any save. This version was looking in /steamID folder (discovered that when I created a new save). Put my old save in there, "corrupted save detected".
==> Your tool can decrypt the new save with the steam ID as password but not my old one, it says wrong password. Also tried with the unity GOG password (unique machine id) you provided a tool for, same result.
Do you know which save password was used for the saves in the /Saves folder ?

Thanks a lot and merry christmas
