Hi!

Anyone else having trouble with the sneaking test in the new Outcast version? I never used to have any trouble whatsoever with the test before. However, I've tried it multiple times in the new version. I can get to the fruit, no problem, but the test doesn't seem to end.

I can wait until the cows come home, to no avail - and if I approach Jan after the getting the fruit, he just goes "I have seen you, Ulukai!" Is there a specific spot I have to go after getting the fruit, or something?

I've tried fiddling with processor affinity and framerate limiting, to see if either would alleviate the problem. No luck so far, though

Thanks!

Never had that problem, but could not get into sneak mode, when using keyboard.
Bought on steam, but same version/game.

You have to hug the ground and crawl behind each barrier I think in order to pass this. I failed the same way as OP, and couldn't figure out the crawl key (the game wrongly says to use the space bar, which only made him jump). On the 360 pad, you press the left thumbstick button to crawl. Do the keyboard equivalent after running from barrier to barrier and he'll notice the missing fruit and give you a passing grade and an EVD.

haha, such a ninja
Doesn't work, good thing it can be skipped. Thanks everyone for the replies.
Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I am unable to make any progress in the game due to the same problem. I can easily sneak over to the fruit (by crawling) and grab it without being seen. But no matter where I go or how long I wait, the segment never ends. The only way to end it is to be seen again, which counts as a "fail" and I am not allowed to progress further until I have passed all four tests. Any help?
Jan will eventually give up on you and lie to his father that you passed the test. You don't need to actually pass to progress.

Yeah, I figured that out shortly before you wrote this. I had read that it wasn't necessary to pass the test, but it took me a while to realize that the only way around it is to keep failing-restarting-failing-restarting over and over until Jan gives up on you. I think I had to do this about four or five times. Initially, I didn't want to fail too many times so I kept reloading my saved game and trying different stuff, which meant I wasn't able to progress. :/ Definitely left a sour taste in my mouth, as this is a pretty showstopping bug that hasn't been fixed in 3+ years.

However I was able to move on and am enjoying the next part of the game.

I'm not sure what causes this bug, but I never had any problem with it. I passed the test fine in both my original CD version of the game, and in v1.1 from GOG which I played recently. It could be that it's rare enough that the developers never found out about it / never bothered to fix it.

Anyway, I'm glad you were able to continue regardless. Enjoy the game, it's great!
