Hey guys!
I'm a huge Outcast fan and I was wondering if I anyone knew of games that have a similar experience to Outcast. Just don't say GTA or Saints Row, because I've already played and enjoyed several GTAs before and Saints Row doesn't really appeal to me that much. I'm going to buy Battlefield 4 anyways after I finish Outcast, but after Battlefield I would like something else to turn to. Check the list before recommending something similar to Outcast!

A list of 3D open-world games I know of:
-Outcast
-GTA
-Saints Row
-Ecstatica
-Far Cry
-Just Cause
Only on PC or only 3D type games? Few and far between give a similar experience (without being crap). Partly why Outcast is remembered so fondly.
I played each Crysis about twice. I especially loved the first one.

Mass Effect is an amazing saga as well. I would say semi-open world, but it mixes FPS, RPG (especially ME1), and action/adventure. You gotta play all 3 though to really get into it.

3D type games, but I dont own any consoles (used to though).

Wait, Crysis is open-world? I could've sworn it was a linear shooter game...either way, I don't think I have the processing power to run it.

Crysis works exactly like the original Far Cry, after all it's by the same company (Far Cry franchise is owned by Ubisoft and Crytek basically continued developing similar games under the name of Crysis - of course, Far Cry 2 and 3 then became fully open world), so if you consider the original Far Cry open world, Crysis is too. But they're not. They're just a set of very big levels.

Now, I do not know of a single videogame which would be quite like Outcast. It's basically StarGate: The Game, and I really can't think of anything remotely similar, perhaps save for Precursors in which you can explore various planets, but the game is sort of broken and unfinished - and damn difficult to purchase nowadays.

However, there is a game which I absolutely adore called Miasmata. It's open-world and works based on the same sort of wonderlust I felt when playing Outcast, on discovering the unknown and uncovering truth. Mechanically, however, it's completely different, a survival adventure ... Thing with a bizarre movement system.

I'd also say that Outcast is quite unique regarding it's setting and gameplay... and I'm not so much into action games, but probably Omikron: The Nomad Soul comes close, but it's a bit more linear than outcast, has a different setting and some beat 'em up elements.
I would advise Beyond Good & Evil.
It is combination of many genres (adventure, action, stealth even a bit of racing).
It also has amazing story, dialogs and characters, and it's quite open-worldish as far as I remember.

I haven't played them myself yet, but you might take a look at the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, which is available here on GOG. Definitely 3D and open-world, although I gather they're much more grim than Outcast is. But they are known for having a world which goes about its business even when you're not there, so in that sense they're similar.

I also second the recommendation for Beyond Good and Evil. It's not exactly open world, because certain places are closed off until the story takes you there, but there are places you're free to wander and it's a very good game.

I've played Precursors and it's interesting, but definitely pretty wonky and unfinished. But you do get to fly a spaceship around in a mini-Elite style game in addition to running around on planets, which is cool. It felt pretty different than Outcast to me though.

I was actually thinking of recommending STALKER, but the tone is just so damn different, and the way I see it, the game's tone was extremely important for Outcast. Mechanically tho, you're right it's not that far fetched.

Yeah, I'd probably agree with this. There aren't too many games that have a similar tone to Outcast though, they're usually either very serious or absurdly silly (or try to be both at once).
Since I can't exactly understand what makes Outcast so special, I'll recommend pretty much all the classic action-adventure games, especially the two Soul Reaver games out of the Legacy of Kain series and the astonishing Beyond Good & Evil (which is arguably the last "true" action-adventure game so far).

Hey. I checked out Precursors, and it looks that it would have been a great game had it been finished. Really sad. :( I checked out Miasmata though, looks interesting. It appears to be open-world, but not quite like Outcast. I'll put it on my list for some other time. Thanks for the help.
