My game crashed during the tutorial, so I started a new game that skipped them and it plays fine, now.

However, I'm guessing I missed stuff that was useful. After playing for a few days and liking what I've seen so far, I have some questions:

1) What do probes do? I've installed a weapon system, loaded up a probe and fired it off at a target. It'll follow, but doesn't seem to do anything else.

2) Can you contact other ships? I've bought a hacking module and successfully scanned a few ships, but I can't seem to contact them and explain my desire for them to drop their cargo... or for any other reason.

There are other things I'd like to know, but those two are the ones I'm most curious about at the moment. By the way, is there a wiki? (I know about the ingame infopedia, but it doesn't seem to cover communication with ships or probes)

Otherwise, great game so far. Also, the music is amazing...

Hi there ok, first thing is first.
What a probe does is collect information about what is surrounding it. For example if you suspect something might be hiding in the nebula you can send in a probe. A pirate or other vessel would be able to tell that it was launched from somewhere behind the probe depending how far you and the probe have travelled.

Yes you can contact other ships. If you select them and then on the main bridge use the left communications screen. There are additional options all screens have near the top so if you hover there near the top left or right you should see some additional options you can select. You can dock with other ships and trade with them.

Now I am not sure if you can threaten them...... YET. The hacking module just gives you additional information that your normal scan does not give and of course, if they have IFF off, the hacking module can get you info. I kept one for maybe 10 min, used it, then sold it off.

The main one I am finding mega hard are the individual ship components. Short of writing down the fact you have a DN44 something something, and checking if it is for sale, it's pretty hard. Even making money is very very hard, I did solve that one though. ;)

Enjoy.

Thanks for explaining probes.

But is it just me, or are the options for communicating with ships/stations a bit limited?

Hi again :)
No, it's not you. It is definitely limited.
