Hello there fellow Nox adventurers
I wanted to ask about the trainer that you are supposed to find in Knaelwood..Is Phyrra a trainer? I make her join my party ( though I asked her fisrt about training and she replied that she didn't know anything)..If so how I can make her train me and if the training of her is mandatory to advance ..well you can grind the skill but..

I d'like to add that I was very excited to see such a game here in gog( I did n't know it's existence) ,it was an instant buy as I feel we miss a bit this kind of games that a simple task is an accomplishment and does matter ..I managed to beat the orc shaman and realized that this changed the world! I love the atmosphere of the coming doom and the dialogues so far..
Thank you

No, Phyrra is not a trainer. Just keep her in your party and level her up how you like. (It seems that the "standard" build for her is to put 6 points into STR and DEX each level, which will allow her to use level-appropriate bows, but I'm wondering if there's a better option.)

No, training a skill is not mandatory; it just provides you an alternate, though limited and potentially expensive, means of increasing a skill. In fact, I would say that the ranged combat skill is likely to increase plenty on its own, seeing as how ranged combat is *far* more useful than melee in this game; most battles I fight my one STR build character never even gets a chance to attack.

Thank you! Phew ok ..Well at least I missed the trainer then,Knaelwood is a difficult place to navigate >_< ..About leveling up Phyrra I thought the same to split the skill points or put one at a time full points in dex/strength ..I have found a strong bow can't remember the name and yes it needs strength ( 7 I think) and a ton of dexterity, with 7 strength you have to "undress' your character to use that bow so splitting the points isn't a bad idea..

Just a hint - the ranged weapon trainer in Knaerwood is to the west. Just enter the town and head to the left. You'll come to the training ground. If the trainer isn't there, just use the wait (W) command for a few hours. Best of luck in the game!

The strongest bow listed in the manual has 18 weight and requires 62 dexterity. The strongest bow I've seen at a store is sold in Knaelwood, so you could check its requirements there.

One build idea that I've thought about is something like this:
* Get Strength up to 20, to get more HP and handle weight needs.
* Put everything else into Dexterity; this will allow the use of stronger bows earlier on, and also allow the use of Thief armors.

In any case, she's perhaps my second least useful character right now, as I have 3 mages with powerful spells and long range attacks and 1 thief/ninja who can make two ranged attacks per round. (My worst character is my fighter, because her attack range is low, so she often doesn't get a chance to attack before the battle's over.)

With Phyrra I tried a strategy during testing similar to what you describe and it was effective. I put almost all points into DEX except a few points in STR to be able to ready better bows. The result was I was using bows several levels ahead, turning her into a glass cannon. Her firepower wasn't as high as a mage casting an AEO spell but she also doesn't run out of magic points, and she hit harder than equal level mage with a level appropriate staff.

I didn't think about using the Thief armor. That's a good idea!

When I play I always max out training in at least one skill for each character. Whether it's strictly necessary, I don't know. The Nox character development system is robust enough that all sorts of strategies have emerged that I never considered, which is what I hoped for :-)

One thing to be aware of though, is trainers set their fee based on the level of the character, not their skill score, so it can get really expensive to train later on if you haven't been training a skill regularly.

Thank you very much for the hint! I think I have found this place ( an opening with a target practice in it) but none was there at that moment..I ll return as I am nearby exploring..

yeah for me too ..I have two pure mages and I rush the fighter forward to the action..That's a good built for Phyrra,it makes sense ..

Thank you ! Training gets more expensive at higher levels , thats good to know !

Thank's all of you for the answers ,giving me an insight about the mechanics..
