After buying the GoG version of Normality and finding out it had the inferior UK version voice acting and not the excellent performance of the Feldmeister, I was pretty disappointed. Having my mind set on playing the game as I remembered it from my childhood, I hunted down a physical copy of the US version (which thankfully is still available 2nd hand at reasonable prices on EBay).

I have now made a patcher that will convert the GoG UK version of the game to the US version.

Get it here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/70vqkrkmpqh5/NormalityUsVoicesPatch.zip
Scroll down and select "Slow Download", make sure not click one of the fake download ads these sites are riddled with (AdBlock helps a ton for that).
Last upload date: 6/8/2013

Alternate community hosted download, see this post: http://www.gog.com/forum/normality/to_get_us_voices/post37

Install instructions are in the Readme file.

If anyone can handle more permanent hosting duties I'm sure the community would be thankful if you could do so and please feel free to distribute this patch as desired. Unfortunately, FileFactory will drop the file after 90 days of non-use and Normality isn't a super popular game; plus you know, most of these free file hosting sites are ad riddled nightmares.

----Original post follows for history (this can be ignored)----

I've looked into what it would take to get the US voices into the GoG version of the game - and while the solution is quite easy, it's unfortunately not one I'm particularly comfortable distributing.

You see, like most games of the era, Normality installs very little to the hard drive and reads most everything from the CD. The voices are unfortunately one of the things kept on the CD. The GoG version of the game runs through DosBox by mounting an ISO of the CD - which GoG sort of humorously tries to hide by renaming the .ISO file to a .GOG file.

So I made an ISO of my US version CD and replaced the GoG one; I also found I had to replace the game's main executable (one of the things which *is* installed) and that resulted in the US voices! Did some further checking to be safe, and apart from the exe, none of the other "installed" files are different between the versions.

So basically, getting the US voices just involves replacing 2 files in the GoG install. The problem is that one of those files is the game's disc image - which I don't really feel comfortable about making publicly available. If anyone at GoG wants to contact me, I'd be more than happy to provide them the US version ISO so they can make it available in an official manner.

What I would recommend to anyone that wants the US voices is that they send a message to GoG using their contact form (put it under "Other" I guess) requesting the US voices and pointing them to this post.

In the meantime, if anyone is *really* hard up for getting the US voices, send me a private message here and we'll see what we can work out.

I was mere inches away from buying this game. I was totally sold on the whole idea of Corey Feldman doing the voice! Now I'm not too sure. I'd have to find those US voices somewhere.

Arg.

Still buy the game man! Its on sale now and hopefully if we ask enough GOG will try and get it released or perhaps we'll find a work around that isn't too difficult.
For what it's worth, I had been in contact with a GoG rep about this and uploaded the US version ISO to them.

This was a few months ago now. I'm assuming they either weren't able to secure the rights or simply haven't been motivated to make the US version available (I don't think the game is a big seller...)

I really hope they manage to get the rights or whatever it is they need to do to make the US voices available as the day I bought this and installed this there was a great amount of sadness in hearing a different voice actor.
However I'm luckily enough to still own the original disc, and after following the instructions provided at the start of this post I'm now grinning like crazy at the handy-work voice acting.

There are a few friends I would buy this game for over GoG but without the original voices the same impact just won't be there!
I too played the game before with the US voices & preferred that over the version GOG has provided. I'm hopeful for the US voices, dudes

I just bought the game and installed it and was WTF'ing the screen before checking in here. I was very disappointed when Corey Feldman's melosious (malodorous?) voice didn't come through my speakers. Son, I am disappoint. Sent GoG some feedback, and came here to post. Everyone who purchases this game should do the same until GoG rectifies the situation. I am not too worried though, as GoG is awesome; mayhaps they just need a little prodding.

Cheers.
Yeah, really not buying it without the US voices. I WAS going to buy it since my CD is scratched, but I can't deal with the UK Kent's voice acting.
I own the US version of this game and really wanna add it to my GOG library. I will inevitably buy the gog version, but just wish there was some way they could have a voice pack addon or some sort of option to switch. Its probably a little harder for them to get the licensing or something. Still would be cool to relive my nostalgia as it was.
Why not take the route that fan-translations take? Just make a diff file that stores the differences between the two ISOs and EXEs, and distribute that. I think that's gray enough.
Awesome, it works! Thanks!

So just replace Norm.exe with the US version, and the NORMAL.GOG with the US versions' ISO.

I'd be willing to pay more for this game if I would be able to choose which voices it had, personally.
Wow, I've had this game since it first came out, 1996, I've finished it more times than I can remember and only now I learn that all this time I had been playing the UK version of the game. No wonder I couldn't "hear" Corey Feldman in Kent.

Well, I'd +1 the US dubbing but only to own the "other" version of the game, Normality was one of the first to ever try using DosBox, I've got most of the settings pinned down now except a delay every time I use a door or read a letter/note.

really, i'll have to try that(granted that i don't screw anything up in the process, i'm a plug and play kinda person) - since posting i managed to get used but like new copy so here's hoping. But anyway still nothing about updating GOG's version of normality to have voice options of some sort -_-

There must be freeware windows diff/patch utilities out there that you can use to create a patch, and GOGers can use to apply it. That way there would be no need to distribute the actual ISO.
