I'm not entirely sure why but I get worse performance on Vulkan than I did on the older OpenGL.

I have an Nvidia 1060 3GB and I am using the latest drivers (430.64, released 9 days ago)

I took screenshots to illustrate. After loading my game save and waiting a minute or so for everything to settle down, In this scene (for example) I get 58-60 (Capped at 60) FPS in OpenGL, in Vulkan I get about half that (26-35 FPS). All the settings are the same, the save game is the same, everything is the same.

I can't really explain what's happening.

Vulkan : https://i.postimg.cc/W3ffWt6G/NMS-VULKAN.png

I was just wondering if anyone else had this same issue.
I already disabled the Geforce Overlay, it made no difference.

Thanks,

Robert

The Vulkan API version of the game is still in beta, I believe. I tried it myself--the OpenGL API so far is noticeably superior--which is not surprising, actually. Even if the Vulkan version was complete and out of beta it still wouldn't look any better than the OpenGL version, imo.
Try these tips from the NMS subreddit. A big difference from previous changes is that the config files are wiped and allowed to be recreated, not just the (no longer used) shader cache.

I tried that but got no change in frame rate.

Due to performance issues I updated the driver and the vulkan beta. After the update the utilisation of my cpu went down and the one of my gpu went up. Therefore I would expect more performance, but my frame rate went from bad to worse. Interestingly the frame rate with high or low settings is almost identical. The RAM is not the issue and my 3770K at 4.7 GHz shouldn't be a bottleneck either.

Most of the time the CPU utilisation is so low that it almost seems that the game is only using one thread. Doesn't look very optimised to me.

My overclocked 7950 should have the performance of a 1050Ti. But having only 30fps with 1080p and minimum settings is almost unplayable.
I realize this is an old thread at this point, but I feel like I should add that further updates resolved my performance issues which is now better than it was pre-vulkan.

These guys have really done a fantastic job updating and improving the game, which I now have over 100 hours in at this point. There are still some small bugs that I'm sure will be ironed out in time, but nothing that really bothers me.
