I've been doing a lot of searching on this issue, and so far I haven't found anything that works.

I just bought NMS during the Winter Sale, so I was eager to get it going. 1.38 was the version I downloaded. When I start the game, it goes to a black screen as if it is about to load, but then it shuts off and goes right back to the desktop. I tried this with GoG Galaxy, and I also uninstalled and reinstalled without it. Same result both ways. I've read that many were having this issue with 1.38, so I did a rollback to 1.37. No luck.

Your system looks like it has enough horsepower to run NMS. IIRC the 760 has 2G for shader cache, so don't push the texture detail too far.

Have you ever gotten it to load? At what point is "start the game?" Have you gotten past the "first run: E in a circie, hold down the E key" bit? Do you get the game slot load screen: five uncommitted slots in 1.3.8, three (normal, survival, permadeath) in earlier releases IIRC. Can you select a slot and does it progress up to but not including the "starfield simulation?" Does the starfield run and can you get past it up to the point that the game's environment should spawn?

As always, check that your video drivers are up to date. At least to start, check that the nvidia control panel settings for the game are set to default. If you run the GeForce Experience, try turning off the in-game overlay.
Spezifications for NVidia GeForce GTX 760:

I think that's the reason.
Oddly, it wasn't.

Thankfully, I set up a dual boot system with Windows 10 long ago. I figured I'd give it a try under W10, and it worked with no problem. I didn't have to make any changes to the graphic options, either.

Now that I've been able to play several hours into it, I can give my opinion of the game. Quite frankly, I'm having fun with it. The story and side quests are keeping me busy, and the occasional excursion to other planets just to see what they look like. I'm sure I'm just scratching the surface, and there's a lot more to come.

I can see why people complain about the repetitiveness, but you could say that about any game. The planet generations are interesting, but I can see how they all have similarities (like caves with the bulb plants in them). I don't know if every system has a space station, freighters warping in, asteroids in between, sentinels always around, and spacecraft flying through a planet's atmosphere, but it would be nice if it wasn't always like that.

Still, it's an enjoyable game. I hope they continue to develop it.
