Really? The in-game teleport network/system isn't working in single player???

I just started playing NMS and after building a portal at my base, and visiting the local space station I get this message at both portals. I figure it's something I haven't done quite right. Any one know or have ideas?

Not sure on that one. I can't upload my discoveries to the network. Are you able to do that at least?

i had that when i first put one down, as soon as id been to a couple of spacestations it was letting me use the teleporter

You have to follow the Awakening quest line far enough (til you are asked about Traveler or Friend ?) After that point the teleporters worked fine.
