Exotic planets (Calcinated, Columned, etc) contain fauna, now. Exactly one specimen. Not only are they sometimes quite a hilarious view, but scanning them also completes scanning all specimen on that planet, working towards Planetary Zoology.

Also, some, or maybe even all of these planets contain items serving as collectable decorations, which can be placed at a base or in a freighter. I've just placed a rather big geometrical figure with a glowing, pulsing core right into the entrance to my freighter base. Quite an obstacle, but then, it's quite a sight :)
