Greetings.

Is it going to be modable and if so how much?
This question / problem has been solved by Shadowcaster787image
Probably given the nature of the technology, though if I had to take a stab at it it would be very limited. Considering its a procedural game.

Hm. True that.

I'm giving you the solution because I don't think I can get a better answer until the game is starting to be ready.
..then again, from what we've seen, I don't think modding in factions and ship-ai behaviour, and making all of it act believably in the world would be, well, very hard. Same with adding simple extra parameters to how everything from creatures to ships should develop.

Not saying that Hello Games should offer limited access to the toolchain to build scripts for functionality like that. But you could potentially tweak in populations on some planets, or maybe create evolution of the ecology over time, and things of that sort.

I mean, maybe the devs would want to demonstrate something like that themselves, and possibly update the game with content like this after the release. Add day and night cycle behaviour on particular plants, add gravity effects and tides..? But since apparently everything from critters to mountains are affected by interdependent variables, changing the rules of how the universe works in more limited ways.... could be fun?

Would be great if someone who talk with the devs once in a while could ask about something like that.

There is a youtube vid that shows off the terrain generation system, at the most basic level you just throw in a bunch numbers and bam watch the screen generate planets/stars. All the videos talk more about planetary exploration, there's very little details about what is happening in space or flight to be more exact.

I agree would be nice to get some press on modding in general.

do you have a link to that video????
So far they haven't hinted to modding at all, so I doubt it. At least not officially.

I'd also be curious how that would even work considering the nature of the game, i.e. not completely singleplayer, but with (if you choose to do so) a connection to the internet to share your discoveries.

If you didn't know, you'll be able to upload your discoveries (new planets, animals, races, plants, etc), and also tap into the global database of discoveries from other people.

I'd expect that if modding is at all possible, you'd lose the ability to connect. But who knows.
Hopefully it will be moddable. I like changing things around like modding ship adding money and resources for more sandbox experience and to remove the grind. Not always though, but I like the options.

I'll be permanently offline with this so what I do with my build / mods if they come, is up to me and affects no one else :)

I would enjoy a mod (or maybe just a mode) that allows you to freeroam through the universe without needing resources. Maybe to do it you lose the ability to 'discover' things first. My dad thought the game looked amazing from an exploration and universe generation standpoint - but I don't think he realizes how much mining and gathering of resources it takes to actually fly everywhere. He most likely will get tired of the 'grind' and give up on the game, sadly.

you can do this right now through the use of a trainer. There's options for unlimited life support, health, etc. You don't love the ability to discover stuff though. I'd agree though-having difficulty sliders for a new game would probably be a good idea.
At 62 years old, I feel so stupid having to ask,...I would like to add a mod to NMSky,but don't have a clue, I downloaded it, but I don't know how to install it in the game, where do I put it, Does GOG allow it?

Yes.

Look for installation instructions on the mod page. The instructions might list the location for the Steam version of the game, in which case you'll need to find the equivalent GOG folder (in "C:\GOG Games\No Man's Sky").

"C:\GOG Games\No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS" is the correct location for most mods iirc.

Also, if you are playing with the new foundation update, check the mod page to find out if the mod is compatible with the update.
