EDIT:

Never mind - I used Galaxy to re-download and install.

The offline installer installed to the OS drive even after copying all of the downloaded offline installation files to SSD.

Going through Galaxy defaulted to the drive where Galaxy had been installed but that required having the Galaxy installer on the target drive before installing as it otherwise defaulted to installing in the same drive as the OS. I was initially trying to avoid downloading something that I had previously downloaded and saved.

ORIGINAL POST:

I am finally trying to migrate software to SSD and uninstalled and then tried to reinstall NMS to one of the SSD. However, the installer did not provide the opportunity to select location.

I remember reading something about this a long time ago but cannot locate that information (think that it was briefly mentioned in Steam forums).

Does anyone recall if there was a trick to get this to install NMS on a drive not containing the OS?

Thank You

The download installer should have a so-called 'Custom' settings tab where you can browse your installation location. But sorry, I will not launch one of them to drop a screenshot, I'm too afraid it will mess-up my own install :)

Thanks but no need to even think about screenshots as I am up and running now from the SSD designated for games, miscellaneous programs, etc. I will list what I ran into below but I was never provided with any option to select the destination folder until I installed from Galaxy when Galaxy was on the SSD.

I was originally started from the previously downloaded full stand alone version (1.77 MP) and no option was permitted to select the destination drive and it just jumped to installing. I copied all of the off-line installer files to the SSD and installed but no option was presented to select the destination and NMS was installed to the current HDD containing the OS.

I installed Galaxy but that also installed to the HDD with no option to select destination from any screen. I finally had the idea to copy the Galaxy Installer file to the SSD and it then installed to the SSD.

I then used Galaxy to download NMS which was correctly installed to the current drive (SSD).

There was something posted on Steam (I think) many months or years ago about not being able to select the destination when installing but the search algorithm kept providing too many hits to be worth wallowing through so I decided that it was quicker to finally use Galaxy which was going to be needed to go to Vulkan experimental anyway.

I know this is moot since you got it installed where you want, but for posterity: Galaxy defaults to installing games on whatever drive it's installed on. You can change that in the Galaxy settings though.

Thank You. I had forgotten about that setting and was anticipating the normal window to select which folder to install to.

Actually I may never had paid any attention to that setting because I installed NMS on day one of release and had over 900 hours into the game before I finally downloaded Galaxy.

I know you solved it for yourself using GOG Galaxy - But for anyone else reading to find a solution :

The Offline Installer (which does not require Galaxy to be installed) has options to browse to where you want the game installed .. See attached screenshots
