So for the first time since the game was released I had put in a serious effort to get to the core of the galaxy, I am at the point where I am about 2-3ish light years away from said core but I cannot target the core to make the jump there.

The distance between me and the core is as said about 2-3 light years and nothing in in between, no stars. I know my jump drives can reach far more then the mentioned distance but I cannot target the core in the galactic map.

I did not follow the core path to center, I just pointed my ship at the core and used the map as far as I could. Did I need to follow the path in navigation to get to center ? Very disappointed to be so close to core and unable to reach it.

Suggestions welcome.

From what I remember making the jump to the center on the Pathfinder release, and from wandering around the real virtual internet, try checking: (1) Your warp drive is fully fueled (all five warp cells), (2) you're on the "path to the center" and not the free exploration route, and (3) you have all three warp reactors installed.

I'm pretty sure that you don't need to follow the path to the center from the very beginning. That would truely be awful. IYou should be able to select the "path to the center" option from any star system. At least, on the current release I've made some wild off path journeys and the path to the center option still shows up.

Other hints possible spoilers, so...

Passing through the center is traumatic. Most of your ship's equipment is damaged (and, since I haven't made the jump in Atlas Rises, it's possible that suit tech may be damaged now as well. I'm a long way from the center so you'll find out before I do ;-). If you have a freighter and a minimally capable alternate ship (with at least the warp reactors) like a 15 slot Class C shuttle, switch to that guy from your main ride and let it take the hit. I'm pretty sure that you can still summon your freighter post-center as this did work in previous releases. Do the minimum repairs to the sacrificial ship and retrieve your good one from the freigher.

Your base will be out of reach. No more teleporting back to that comfortable beach house with the nipnip buds. You'll need to claim a new base. Most of your old stuff will be in the "parts bin" in the new base once you claim one. HOWEVER (again, at least on the last release) you don't get back all of your farming resources. Before you make the jump, tear down your farm and store what you can on the freighter or in your storage units.
Jump drive fully fueled, plenty of materials on hand for the inevitable damage ship will receive.

However when I select the path from navigation "to the core" it goes off in the opposite direction from the core, that is why I am afraid that you needed to follow their path or you do not get to core. If this is the case then that is a shame, I was really getting close to sending some praise the way of HelloGames. This will not happen if they make me backtrack almost 200k light years.....
maybe just visuals of the core are seperated of from point of actual core, like lump of central stars are on same one side of central black hole and not sphered all around it
I more or less have given up on reaching the galactic core, if the contact for the core point is somewhere else I have not found it. Been going around the inner edge where the stars end towards the core hoping that the path to core may re-sync back up but it does not. Still the path leads me away from the core to get to the core......Annoying.
