Hi I have this game breaking bug, that every time I try to head back to my base I get a crash to desktop. I though it could be because I had changed the settings to enable me to build a bigger base, so I changed them back and moved the base (losing a lot of time and effort in the process). However the problem started again with my small base.

Ive tried verifying the game, clearing the game cashes etc, all to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem?
The game had worked fine for 50 hours or so previously.

Hi
Had this happen once. Then never again. Guess it's just unlucky. Haven't got a clue why it hasn't happened again.
The patch 1.33 is now imminent to be available. They fixed different issues with teleporters.

Thanks for the replies. Just tried out the patch but the constant crashes to desktop still happen. I tried going to different systems before teleporting back and it still crashes. Tried warping back too with no luck. Pity, I was enjoying the game til now.

Try this, it may be that your saves are corrupt after update:

Delete all shaders - Start game - save asap (ship in, ship out) - Quit game - Restart.

No joy I'm afraid, it crashed at exactly the same point. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Is the new base in more or less the same location as the previous one?

I did have a similar problem once where restoring from a particular saved game would crash within moments of beginning. Some times immediately, others after a few seconds (long enough to start moving around).

After the usual clean cache, verify files, etc. and a long thread with Support, we finally guessed that there was some issue with the display list and local geometry. Something, somewhere in view was causing an exception when it was rendered. Since there is always some randomness in each restart, the bad geometry didn't always hit right away.

The solution in this case was to race around to the opposite side of the "spinner pole" and do a new save. That worked. Starting from tne new save was stable enough to get to the ship and away from that location.

So, it might be that you just had the bad luck that there is some glitch or bad geometry near your base location that throws a fault.

No, I couldn-t get back to the same system, so ended up rebuilding from scratch on a different planet only to have the same problem.
Still not fixed, even with the latest patch.
Short answer that worked for me was to rearrange my home base layout and this eliminated the problem for me.

I had this problem once (before Pathfinder update) but just happened to recall that the problem started right after I had completed one of the last base building quests to build a landing pad. I happened to have a save backed up right after building the landing pad so I was able to test whether or not this contributed to the problem as I did not want to restart the game and grinding through the languages and obtaining the basic blueprints for everything.

I could teleport from my base to any of the linked space stations but crashed to desktop when retuning to my home base. I could also warp anywhere and do other things within the game without a problem. The crash only occurred when teleporting back to home base and regardless of whether this was a previously linked system in the list of places that I could teleport to or if I went to a new system and tried to return to my home base.

The game crashed when teleporting back to home base when the landing pad was connected to a circular room and the same circular room also contained a galactic trade terminal. When I first deleted the landing pad and then also moved the landing pad to the opposite side of the base the crashes stopped. When I moved the landing pad back to the circular room containing the trade terminal the crash to desktop returned.

My conclusion is that there might be certain combinations of items in a base that might create the crash. Your problem might be due to other causes. It seems silly that base layout should cause the problem but I tested this and it fixed my problem. It might also be that although I was allowed to place the item being constructed it might also have extended far enough outside the allowed base building boundary that this was the problem.

Thanks for the insight, there is indeed a landing pad connected to a circular room on my base. If only I could get back there to delete it!
