I mean your base on a planet, not the one in your freighter. Can you dismantle it completly, fire all NPCs, sell all pieces of the base and just restart building and doing again the quests?

Probably not the quests part. AFAIK, the game will remember that you've finished all of the running around and fetching things for the four NPCs and won't restart the quests.

You can tear down and rebuild parts of your base without losing anything, unlike, say, ship or exosuit upgrades which only give back part of the material used to construct them.

Slightly OT: I was wandering around a planet with a "habitable base" flagged on it and stumbled across a second, un-flagged and unused base. There's no a priori reason why there can't be multiple bases on a planet or on other planets on the same system. It was a surprise, though.
Thanks Dashiichi,
although I read it in a post before, I'm now sure you can't have more than 1 planetary base at the same time, thus my question. But you are right: repeating the quests wouldn't make any sense because you have already got all the blueprints for the building stuff.
I have found a better suited place for my base and I'm about to re-locate it. I'm happy there are these Teleporters on the stations, otherwise I wouldn't find my previous base on the Galaxy map anymore :=)

To re-locate there are 2 possibilities, please correct me if I'm getting this all wrong:

First, the containers.
I've read about these containers, but they take a lot of Iron to collect first if I'm not wrong. I think I could then just dismantle everything simply deleting stuff which then will (hopefully) get added to my Exosuit. After that, I put the material in the containers, I fly to my new location and activate a 'Habitable Base'.

Second, the much easier way I think: Just activate a new 'Habitable Base' and all stuff from your old base will be found in this sort of material shelter located in the first room of each base. The price will be that some materials will get lost in the process. I'm curious how much.

Anyway, thanks for your explanations above,
XenonS

If you take down a storage container and stand it back up somewhere else it will contain all the materials you were storing in there. no need to empty if first. All other components should break down to original materials. This does not happen with materials / devices built on freighter which only gives you half back. Best to break down your hardware and move all recovered materials to storage, then break down your storage.

Hello ukmerlin,
thanks for your nice input, I appreciate :)
I have now reached 20M in units so I will soon buy a freighter if I see one I like and then test out these building possibilites.

I haven't re-located my base yet because of new O-type Star discoveries with nice oceanic planets, also I found a NPC buying me these Aquaspheres for +100% so this has tremendoulsy increased my units.
Gosh, I'm now 2-3 months in the game and on average 2 hours a day - and I'm still not bored for a iota...This game is rocking interesting, at least for me...

I will run through your tips about the containers soon, maybe I'll ask some more specific questions then.

Thanks a lot for your aid.
