After the next expedition in the list of frigates, on one of them appeared the inscription "damaged component". This warning does not prevent you from adding a frigate to new expeditions, but I guess the damage must be such as to fix. How do I do this?
You need to land your ship on the damaged frigate, find the damage, and fix it.

As you noted, depending upon whether or not you want to take the chance of losing the frigate you do not have to repair. this is a way to rid yourself of a frigate that you would otherwise delete.

Repairing a frigate will take one or more of gold, platinum, oxygen, silver, pure ferrite and tritium so save the extra trip by having some of this on hand.

The damaged frigate will have a red flag so that you can find out which one needs repair without having to land at random.

When landing there are some messages and you can have damaged systems flagged.

All damaged systems on a frigate required the same repair materials and quantities (or at least used to).

You can avoid having to repair frigates but making sure that the total relative stars of the assigned group of frigates exceeds the mission difficulty level. One star greater will still result in occasional damage but since switching to ensuring that each expedition assigned is two stars greater I have not had a frigate damaged.

thanks to everyone who responded; I found landed on a broken frigate, found all the faults and repaired them
Just beware sometimes you can have parts of a Frigate damaged, but there will not be a marker for all of them.

Its an occasional bug with the game (its been reported to the Zendesk numerous times for a few years by quite a few people including myself).

In those cases, just go around every possible damaged location, if it doesn't have a marker, but the panel is visually in the open damaged state, fix it. This bug makes the whole repairing damaged Frigates a bit more of a PITA, because you have to know where all the possible locations are and instead of walking to just a few of them directly you need to walk to all of them to be sure, but its not insurmountable, and is better than thinking you fixed them all, flying back to your Freighter only to find the Frigate is still being reported as damaged. Back to the Frigate we go ... Aaaagh!.

Yeah about that -- once I had six upgrades per type, six for fuel and six for time, three in tech and three in general, I never ever saw a frigatte getting damaged, ever again.

I also can sent any frigatte of any kind on any mission of any kind and its always gets a five stars rating. So, explorer doing three star combat mission ? Sure, go ahead. Of course it helps that all my frigattes are S grade, and most of them are at 55+ missions, i.e. maxed out with base stat sums of 60 to 74 before the bonuses (all numbers I would have liked to know beforehand but the net wasnt helpful about that).

The problem is of course farming that many S grade upgrades in the first place. Fortunately the net offers nice people who publish good derelict freighters to do so (grade, hyperdrive range bonus and fuel is always fixed per derelict freighter, so if you have a one that drops s-grade, it always drops s-grade, and if it drops 250 lightyears hyperdrive bonus it always does that, the same for fuel which can be up to 20%), and fortunately there is a bug that allows you to farm even if playing offline, despite the fact that you would have to pay 30 million for every friggin time because the price for the receivers never resets and you also dont get the free receiver per week you're supposed to get either.

Its still a huge very annoying grind though. But after that you're all set.

The bad message is:
These things are useless. You came from Germany, read this post on German's Sky:

I dont understand.

If they do nothing, then why can I send my single explorer on a combat mission, easy, and it gets five stars ?

I just double checked, maybe I misremembered ?

So I picked my Survival character. I dont have any three star mission available today, but there was a two star Trade mission. Assigned a single combat unit with Trade 15, I already got FOUR stars with that.

Assigned a different combat-unit with Trade 20 - FIVE stars. From a single specialist of another profession.

Switched to my disfunctional Normal character. Here I have frigattes already, but I stopped the whole Frigatte leveling early, for doing it twice was too tedious for my taste. I also didnt upgrade the freighter, except the inventory space.

So I pick two ships which arent of the proper specialization and they - get ONE star. Despite the sum of the stats being 14, so its almost as high as the first single combat unit on the other account.

Sorry, but that german link is wrong.

Maybe it doesnt work for fuel and time, thats possible. My Surival and Normal characters dont get the same missions, so I cant check. Though my Normal got mighty long missions today.

But it definitely works for the rating, and very strongly so.

By the way, if you collect the upgrades for warp range, you get the others automatically anyway. Might as well use them, at least in the tech slots that arent useable for anything else.
@Geronimo

1. What's wrong with the Link? For me, it drive me to the posting with an long explanation for the things.

2. Any Upgrade increase the "Fleet Coordination". This is the effect, it increase indirect the count of any Trait-specific value (combat, trade etc.). This is the minor effect from all Upgrades.

The major effect should be, an specific Trait (combat, trade etc.) to increase significant. This is the thing, what the fuel- and coordination-upgrades not deliver. Neither the fuel-consumption nor the speed.
