kalron: This again ^ I did not purchase Elite on the last Steam sale out of respect for those who got burned by the whole DLC thing. Have I gotten burned by NMS...only time (and paid DLC) will tell ;)

Socratatus: How do you find Elite? I`ve been thinking about getting this...
It's been described as a mile wide and an inch deep. I played a lot. Worked my way up to a Python ship, which cost about 130 million decked out with good equipment. Then the paid DLC came out. I heard about upgraded weapons and stuff. But they said you could still play without the DLC. Next thing I know, I am being shot down easily by NPCs. After a few of these I was going to have to sell my Python or lose it and get nothing. At that point I realized the game is nothing but a Grind Fest. The bad part of that is you grind for 500k-1mil at most, many times much less, and lose it at 10-20 million at a time. There were people claiming to make way more than that but i never saw it, and they never posted screen shots when challenged. So after being put in a position of having to grind for a long time to get my Python back, I just quit. The game is fun at the start when you don't have much to lose, but it doesn't scale up very well. You are risking way more when you finally get a good ship, but the jobs, and bounties aren't geared up with that. So you are making next to nothing in comparison, and expected to grind it out. You could just stay in one of the lower class ships and the jobs and bounties would not be so bad. They have Factions and I joined one for a while, until I realized it was just another grind fest dressed up as Factions. Unless you spend way too much time grinding for your Faction, you won't get that much out of it. Again, unless you stay in a lower class ship, then yeah, grinding for the Faction may make some sense. You are not risking 20 million to make 1 million a week. And that's only if you only get shot down once doing it, being in a Faction also puts a huge target on your back. So you have lots of people gunning for you. And for what? The chance to risk losing everything you ground for, for a couple of months. I just got sick of all the grinding for nothing. That being said, I watch a few videos a couple of days ago, and am thinking about reinstalling the game, selling the Python, which I can't afford if it's still there, and playing with a Vulture. A wicked fun ship to play, it's a relatively cheap killing machine. Very fun to bounty hunt in.

YaTEdiGo: How it ended all the "non multiplayer thing"? Did they said something about it?
avatar
nipsen: Nope. HG has gone dark after the last "Sony doesn't own the PC version per se..." stuff.
Yeah, they dont reply anything :(
avatar
YaTEdiGo: I love the game, even if I consider that HELLO GAMES told us tons of lies about the features, do you feel the same?

And talking about this, which features finally non included we could expect to have in the future? Do you guys consider they will include some of the promised ones that didnt appear in the vanilla game?
avatar
ThorChild: Not exactly, on the first part. I think something definitely happened during the later stages of the games development, but i don't believe Sean and Hello Games deliberately lied about stuff that never existed. What exactly happened to the things we know are missing is interesting.

Sean has already tweeted/posted that now they have got most of the bug fixing patches out the way, they are working on some free updates and adding features. Of those 'features' only 'base building' has been specifically mentioned. But free content is on the way, in what ever form it takes (PC exclusive, adding things back in we saw in previous footage that maybe did not work on PS4? or combined PC+PS4 (Sony approved) updates).

If they are smart they will do free stuff for a while before even floating the paid for DLC info. It's going to take a while to build their reputation again in the eyes of many, maybe much like with X: Rebirth?
Thanks! at least base building would be awesome!

Millian: From my point of view, you're weird, but don't take it personally.

I played the game on release. The more I played, the more I grew disappointed and felt I had to keep playing, because SURELY I was missing something. Nope. Turns out my brain had been primed by a bunch of lies. When I finally realized the extent of it, upon reaching the first center via hyperdrive mod (because no way I could have handled the tedium otherwise), and realized the game's idea of a journey is to bite yourself in the ass, I lost all interest in the game.

Some amount of redemption could have been had, if something cool would have happened upon reaching the center. Maybe the ability to experiment with planet generation. Some insight into the game. Anything, other than just starting from scratch again, which has to be one of the biggest troll moves ever.

Ok, done ranting. Resume daily life.
Thats kind of a big spoiler, or a warning... depending on the target... I dont worry as I already read it somewhere, but for others you should tell them firstly you are going to spoil the "end" of the game. ;( even if I agree that is kinda "trollish"

Funny, that is what a lot of people say about NMS. I personally did not pick up Elite due to what you described. That and the shafting of Early Backers being forced to pony up more $$$ for the expansion that was promised for free DLC. People were really pissed when they said you didn't need the expansion but the following update destroyed the original game making it unplayable and forcing you pay out to play more.

That`s exactly what I was going to say, but decided not to. NMS has been described as that.

Yea, I must `ve skimed read your first post, as I could swear it said you did buy Elite. My bad.

I had a look. I thought Horizons was standalone, as some people have said, but it isn`t, you have to buy the first one too which makes the game as expensive as NMS. The game from the reviews and research I`ve done looks pretty good, except it looks like you must be online 24\7 which i`m not a great fan of. I used to play Mechwarrior Online a lot, and while it`s good, I always had issues with my net being flaky. I wish there was an offline campaign where you could fly the universe.

Oh yea, and they did shaft early adopters which is always a mark down and makes me think thrice about purchasing from the Devs. Devs should suffer blowback if they ever cheat their customers.

Oh yeah, you do have to be online, if your internet is down, so is the game.
