There are inevitably a few differences, but personally all I can say is there has been nothing that has prevented my enjoyment of the game.
If we wanted alll the features of an online player then install GOG Galaxy.
Overall, since NMS came out (which initially had to use a broad scalpel and cut out all of the online multiplayer content due to time restraints imposed by Sony), us offline players have done really well from Hellogames support.
Now it is getting a lot further developed, I guess we can expect a few differences between our game and a fully online game.
My biggest gripe was the exclusion from being able to get a Void Egg and losing out on the whole point of a major update (ie Living ships and the associated mission).
Now we have that (again Hellogames listened to feedback reports), a few minor missions missing from the Nexus which is primarily all about Multiplayer to me is no big shakes really.
I have also requested in the past that the Nexus Anomaly would be good for us offline players, if during an Offline game it was treated as any other station, and random NPCs would fly in just like they do for normal space stations .. Maybe they will eventually implement the idea if they also agree it would be a nice addition, because without being online the Nexus Anomaly is a bit of a ghost town in the landing area. Or maybe technically due to it being mostly about an online meeting place the suggestion is not doable .. We shall have to see, but it would not surprise me if Hellogames come good on all requests sometime in the next couple of years, they have done the same so many times for me personally already its worth putting in a well reasoned feedback report just in case. You dont get if you dont ask.
We still get random missions from the Nexus for quicksilver / nanites / assorted rewards, we still get weekly events from one of the NPCs, plus rewards from those characters for discoveries made or handing in certain items, a few missions lost to only online players is no big loss to me.
During the course of development of this game we could all say there have been losses, whether offline or online. Revamps of the games periodic table, what items turn up on certain planets, the atmos' of many planets, the original thematic and artistic simplicity giving more to the feeling of the overall 70's sci-fi vibe, overhauls of the procedural generation which rought havoc on peoples bases .. The flip side to that is we have all gained a heck of a lot more in diversity, atmospherics, immersion and more pull to bolster the longevity of the game as a whole. Just the fact that a small indie team of circa 20 people now, has done more in terms of support over an unprecedented period of extended development time (which is still ongoing), than any AAA company with a 300 strong development team, I really don't think we have much to stamp our feet about.
Overall at the moment, if you want a fully offline game more than you want an online game, the few differences are minor and do not spoil anyones enjoyment of the game really.
Of course, this is all in my humble opinion.
Re Lexx Zev - I am so glad they did not include anything similar to her devoted admirer, I would have used a Scatter Blaster on him long ago. Although the object of his affections would be welcome ;) (that is .. in human form anyway). A freighter in living ship form, maybe with bug eyes, would also be a welcome feature.
