This game freaking sucks. Not only is the tutorial severely lacking but the battles seem to go on for eternity. I had three of my ships firing on one enemy vessel and never did it once even budge the shields. I ended up losing the entire fleet. And that was on the "beginner" level. I don't know what to do. Looks like I wasted 10 bucks.

Stupid Game.

Sorry to say that, but maybe it's not the game that's lacking, but you? After all, this is not Freespace or any other stupid space shooter where you can kill a dreadnaught with just a few shots. This is a tactical fleet simulator where you maneuver and get yourself into position and use shield breakers and mass drivers and missiles and fighters to bring your enemy down piece by piece.

Looks like you'll have to either muster up the patience to learn the game mechanics - or return the game. There is no other way. But if you do return the game, you'll have to admit to yourself that you have actually failed where many have succeded.

Anyway, that was my 2 Eurocents.
I bought a gun, took it out of the box, pulled the trigger and nothing even happened. How am I suppose to kill people with this useless paperweight? Beat them to death with it? Instant regret. This is the worst way I have ever spent money that doesn't involve herpes.
Guns come in cases or crates, not boxes.
You never mentioned loading the weapon before pulling the trigger.
8 Cycles Of Function Semi-Automatic and Automatic Weapons
1) Feeding
2) Chambering (LOADING)
3) Locking
4) Firing
5) Unlocking
6) Extracting
7) Ejecting
8) Cocking

You don't have to pay to get herpes. I would know.
Herpes aside, it sounds like you haven't read the manual or looked at the weapon descriptions when fitting out your ship. Both of those things explain the 'paper/scissors/rock' mechanics of combat in the game.

This being said, maybe the game just isn't what you are looking for. There is a lot of complexity and the learning curve is pretty steep. The reason alot of people like the game is because it is hard and it doesn't hold your hand.

If you're looking to play something that is more straightforward, I'd recommend Freespace or the X-wing Series. If you are still after RTS space ship games, Homeworld 1 and 2 or even Sins of A Solar Empire might be good places to start.

Well, I would hold back on the recommendation of Homeworld. I played that game recently, and it is pretty relentless WRT difficulty. As in Nexus, you have 'paper/scissors/rock' mechanics that for example will shredder your fighters if they come close to a multi-gun corvette but who absolutely gang-rape a lone ion frigate. Also, since this game does not allow issuing commands while being paused (other than Nexus or Homeworld's successors, Homeworld: Cataclysm and Homworld 2), gameplay can become quite hectic. That being said, just like Nexus, HW 1 is incredibly beautiful in its own way and has aged very decently.

No need to dump on Freespace and other games which are just different styles, heh.
