Greetings,

I started the OC(lvl12) and SoU(lvl10) with a Sorcerer.

My grief is that i get "one-shot" more often than I could avoid. Before you advise defensive potions, magics and the like. I come from years of SOLO Baldur's Gate gaming. I am not very familiar with the 3rd edition rule set but I do notice the impact in how a Sorcerer does initially. I reload (on average) every five minutes. "Boss" fights distort this average to a MINIMUM of once every minute.

Not being able to send your creatures ahead of you as "fodder" is a ridiculous non-ability of this game engine and a severe oversight in my personal opinion.

My inquiries:

How do you cope, playing a single class Wizard/Sorcerer?

Is the summon/henchman only being able to follow you a problem for you, playing a Wizard/Sorcerer?

thank you
cast your defensive spells
stone skin
improved invis
these 2 are core
and then just use your offensive spells depends on your wizard level

you can work a bit with casted creatures but i do not need them.
your henchman should have also stone skin on and some other boosts can be useful
Thanks for the nice reply. I just got stoneskin on my Sorcerer, no improved invis yet.

I apologize for the double posting. I had to remove my correction. I did not think it would be of much help to anyone, thus the blank post.

I have just finished "Shadows of Undrentide" with a lvl 1 Ranger lvl 11 Sorcerer. It was (mostly) a cakewalk once having gotten used to the engine and rule-set. I enjoyed the story, I would however not replay the campaign. I chose utility spells over summoning spells and relied mostly on Dorna (lvl 5 rogue lvl 8 cleric, This might be easily optimized to a full fledged cleric as you get all needed spells easily as a Sorcerer). Fireball, like in Baldur's Gate is "Power Overwhelming" and seems to still work crazily in NWN, take it ASAP. Stoneskin and Improved Invisibility are a must as well. Personal additions would entail Find Traps and the all time favorite status improving level two spells (any valid).

I was busy with my undergraduate degree during the release of NWN... I regret having to catch up with this immensely awesome scene. I am now playing the original campaign and plan on playing the final add-on before plunging myself in to the depths of fan made modules and finally dabbling at making a module myself.

Let this game live and be sure that you (a newcomer) are aware that these games are mostly about telling a tale than about action and adventure etc. I enjoyed SoU thoroughly even if it seemed short (to me).

It is certainly an awesome game. If you find the game too easy, and it sounds like you do, you may want to set the difficulty to "D&D Hardcore" which makes the game more realistic. Your power overwhelming fireball, for example, will damage teammates within range as well. I've always enjoyed the game more on D&D mode. BTW: If you liked SoU, wait til you try HoTU :)
Would it be a helpful if I were to program a little hak/override that, upon you saying the word "attack!" your summons and everything else that is nice to you would attack their nearest hostile target?

You can put chat commands in a quick-select box (like F1, F2, etc).

Have you tried Hordes of the Underdark yet?
I didn't like SoU very much. HotU is, for me, the best of the campaigns.

Also, try a Rogue/Wizard and see how awesome they are =)
