The numbers indicate an overall rating of 2.5 out of 5 but suddenly all the latest reviews are calling it an almost perfect game after the initial reviews calling out the flaws and things needing fixing?
Seems a bit sus.
I would believe the early reviews. I have read on nwn2 forums that the nwn2ee is terrible. It is just a cash grab.
People sure love the words "cash grab", I think "low effort" is more appropriate here. The early reviews are also full of nut bars giving it 1 star after rage quitting on the new logos or the character creation screen.

After 40 hours I'll say it's far from perfect, but it doesn't deserve 1 star either. It also seems like it was rushed out to meet a deadline.

The big question is if Aspyr will continue to properly support and update it, like Beamdog did after their dismal release of NWN1EE.

I just looked and the most recent reviews are two Positive ones followed by 6 negative ones in a row. So I'm not seeing any sudden change to all positive reviews, unless you are referring to just the positive two.

Not everyone is going to hate, or get hit with bugs.

I haven't tried the EE myself, but my guess is that people's opinion on it strongly depends on their expectations. Those who are mainly interested in a chance to play the official campaigns on a modern rig and/or with a gamepad and who have had a bad or no recent/deep experience with the original game at all might actually be happy enough, without faking it.

While most with advanced knowledge of NWN2 and heavy involvement in its modding community seem to have good reason to be utterly disappointed with the "enhancements", especially when comparing it to NWN EE, since Aspyr seems to have completely ignored this aspect of the game and its community and caused serious compatibility issues for old modules and mods (e.g. through the UI changes). Getting community members' hopes up by using the term "EE" and then completely neglecting them and their ideas of enhancement while simultaneously breaking backwards compatibility and introducing more bugs instead of fixing old ones, that's how all the bad reviews were earned.
I just took a look at the recent reviews, there's so many people with glitches and crash issues because they have still have old mods and incompatible configuration options from the original game in the "Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2" folder.

They definitely should NOT have made EE share the same user folder as the OG when there's so many issues with the ini options and old mods. For example, the "Disable Movies=1" option in the ini file makes EE hang on start-up.

IMO, they definitely should not have made EE have issues with ini options and old mods in the first place, heh. It seems like they did this EE completely oblivious of why most people even still play the old NWN games in 2025.

I noticed a couple of the 5 star ones were identical.
People probably think they're doing a good deed by upvoting the game, but it's as dishonest as calling this a remaster, which technically Aspyr didn't do.

The controller UI is nifty but not worth 30 bucks. This is something a junior developer could have come up with over a week or two with some coffee and water supplying their workload.

I'm glad multiplayer works for people, but I can already connect to PWs in the og.

Not trying to diss this, but this really is a cash grab. And I don't say that loosely. The only purpose for this game is to generate console sales and try to sell dlc if it sells enough copies.
It's a weird one.

As a mouse and keyboard user, this is one of the worst re-releases I've ever seen. The re-release is actively inferior to the original. If I play the original, the toolbars don't reset themselves every time I go to the menu. I also have access to a character biography.

As someone who is sick of RPGs having terrible controls for gamepad, this re-release is one of the best I've ever seen. Finally, a gamepad setup that actually make sense to use OVER the keyboard + mouse. And I'd forgotten how unwieldy the NWN2 camera naturally is.

But I hesitate to praise Aspyr for this, because of how poorly they did with K+M *on a PC game*.
I can't even start the game. Black screen and then it shuts down
