Geromino: Err ... the problem with Beamdog was not "new things bad" etc. etc.
Good. Now tell that to the people complaining about them all the time. Sad fact of the universe is that it's very rare for people to complain about things with nuance, or even to complain about the correct things at all.

Thing is, it's the prevailing, vocal opinion that gets heard, not the tinny little intelligent opinions that get drowned out by all the silly people. Also it's impossible to have real conversations about writing qualiity when everyone is yelling "WOKE" all the time.

Amber Scott, at Beamdog, said herself that she completley intended to write an SJW game, when she did her Baldur's Gate travesty for Beamdog. She also explained how she actively altered Jaheira and Safana, because she found them to be offensive and "sexist" towards women.

She also removed roleplay options from the game, in order to force the players the lay the way she wanted them to play their characters. As seen here in this screenshot. https://forums.beamdog.com/uploads/editor/sp/dnce7jw3633a.jpg

As you can see, the player get 5 options to reply to a character calling her a wench. All options = get offended. So no options at all. She did this on purpose, and she admitted it plenty of times. It was done for political reasons, and nothing else. Sadly her narcissism wrecked what could have been a very good expansion pack. That there is me backing up my claim that the writing is horrendous, whie also claiming it is "woke" (which the writer herself also said, by the way).
Well, thats not BG1EE though, thats the new game thats supposed to happen between BG1 and BG2.

Since I had the pleasure to see the quality of writing in the EEs, I am not interested in that one.
The old one works.

So it sounds like it's literally just graphical/UI improvements. That's a huge disappointment, because Neverwinter Nights 2 could have benefited enormously from a real enhanced edition.

There's a huge amount of cut content in the original game. Qara's storyline was pretty much entirely cut, Neeshka was clearly meant to be a potential love interest, and a lot of the act 2 and act 3 content is clearly rushed and incomplete. And the first half of act 2 is painfully packed with filler; many areas involve literally fighting the same battle 5-10 times in a row, and don't even have interesting plot points connected to them. NWN1 also had the issue with copy/paste encounters, but areas like Castle Jhareg were highly memorable because of an interesting story payoff. NWN2 has a long stretch of act 2 that is just boring, both in terms of repetitive encounter design and a story that isn't going anywhere with no real payoff. There's a lot of room to refine there.

If a team actually went in and fixed up the campaign and filled in all the missing pieces that would be legitimately an enhanced edition, but it sounds like the campaign is completely unchanged. I see no reason to purchase then when I already own the original.

Do you know of any "real" Enhanced Edition made by a studio different from the original developers that actually changed the original content, and without getting massive flak for it from fans? That expectation is a bit unrealistic, IMO. Something like that would be more of a Director's Cut, made by the original devs, and this clearly was not going to be THAT. It's still disappointing that they fixed so little of the technical stuff and apparently did not really care for module and mod compatibilities, which is extremely tone-deaf for a game with a bigger modding community like NWN2.

People will always complain about the new content being different from the original. Doesn't matter how good or bad it is, someone will find something they dislike about it and others will dislike it just on principle of it not being the original.

I don't much care for the drama, personally. There are parts of those enhanced editions I enjoyed, and others parts I do not, just like any RPG in general. There are definitely parts of the original NWN2 adventure that I do not enjoy, and I would be legitimately curious to see another team's take on them and how to make them better.

Sure, I can definitely relate to that, for both NWN games. Just saying that it would be very risky for a team to do, commercially, especially if they're not the original creator. Things like that are more likely to happen as mods (although I guess they could always try and make these changes optional, so that purists and critics of the orinal campaigns both get what they want, but I imagine it wouldn't be easy to implement).
