Aside from all of the crashes, which I've read had more to do with the Extended Edition itself. I've run across a number of glitches and/or bugs.

1) At the inn where the Dukes are, I came up out of the basement or down from my room, and found two 'ghost' NPCs standing at their table. When I tried talking to them, I was informed they were too far away to talk too. I was able to click on the 'View Character' icon to see their character sheets. Eventually, they disappeared and the Dukes reappeared.

2) My PC will not mount his horse.

3) I can no longer travel to any of the Thar sites (I suspect it's because I'm not mounted)

4) Aside from going through all the permutations, is there a logical way of solving the 'gnomish' lock puzzle?

I don't think the crashes are caused by the Enhanced Edition. I had a lot of crashes when i tried play the original game a years time ago.

1) Never experienced that in my two playthroughs. So can't comment on that one.

2) Did you follow the instructions mentioned in the journal entry created by the quest when you buy the horses? I had a few issues with the party mount command, where the companions would mount their horses but my character wouldn't. But that was fixed when i mounted the horse individually with my character.

4) I'd like to know this too. I haven't been able to find any clues on how to solve that puzzle myself.

Regarding the gnome puzzle: I googled and the only solution I could find was throwing a gnome at the lock (it was a tongue in check solution --I think-- to another game)

Regarding the horses: Yes, I read the instructions, and I've tried virtually everything I could think of:

Whenever I try individually mounting my horse, the cursor changes to 'talk' and the horse turns to look at me. I wasted at least an hour trying virtually every combination. (I don't remember ever having this problem with other modules.)

I don't remember this puzzle, where did you find it? Is this something optional?

Hm, that's odd, seems like something is broken in your game ...

What you could try, if you haven't done so already, is to assign a different mount to your PC. It happened to me once that I couldn't find mine because I had left it in a different place than the companions' mounts, so I just assigned one of the spare, neutral animals from the trader to my PC and noone complained about this horse theft.

The puzzle is in the Thentia's archmagi tower.

Good idea (unassigning & assigning different mount)….unfortunately, that didn't work either. :( I'm just shelving the game and continue replaying the BG series (for the umpteenth time), interspersed with some NWNVault mods (swordflight, etc)

I want to play Swordflight, too, but if I'm not mistaken, the series is not finished yet, or is it? I'm afraid, if I play through parts 1-4 now, by the time part 5 is released, I will have forgotten so much, that I would feel compelled to start from the beginning again, but remember enough to not enjoy having to replay everything ...

Ah, okay, I remember now. Yes, there is an in-game hint.

* SPOILER*
Somewhere close by in the tower you find a cryptic note reading "To see, free a ...". That's your clue for solving the lock puzzle.

Not sure if it's finished, but I'm playing the first one now. It's interesting enough so that I won't mind replaying it with a different build (current PC is a Bard/Rogue/Ranger).

I remember getting the note, but won't go back until after Swordflight
