Hey guys! I was wondering, NWN falls into D&D, right?

So, what should I actually play or read first to get into the story? Is playing NWN and it's expansions good lead into the story, or I will be lost in all the names etc.? I'm also downloading DDO, so will playing NWN give me general info on the D&D world?

Thanks!

NWN is set in the Forgotten Realms, and there are a ton of books based in that setting. However, you don't need to have read anything to enjoy the game.

As far as D&D goes, you'll pick up some from the game itself, but it's based on an older rule set (the 3.0 rules), so the actual game mechanics are different than the newer rules. But you can certainly find info about the 3.0 rules around the internet if you want to.

Are the novels listed here pretty much all for Forgotten Realms? If so, holy Christ, that's a boatload of material!
No idea, but it looks like it likely is a pretty comprehensive listing. I personally haven't read a single one of the Forgotten Realms novels, but I played the hell out of NWN, so that should indicate that you really don't need to read any of them if you don't want to.
Yeah, I think I'll get a ton of information from NWN (I plan to thoroughly pass every campaign I can, concentrated). And those books in the game are quite nice.

Is DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online) set in a certain setting, or it's D&D in general?

Cheers!
I believe DDO is in the Eberron setting.
DDO is indeed Eberron.

You may want to try some of the Forgotten Realms video games after you're done with NWN:

- Baldur's Gate is just south of Neverwinter
- Icewind Dale is just north of Neverwinter

Also, NWN modules set all over the Forgotten Realms exist -- including persistent multiplayer worlds.

If you really really really want to get into the game, I would recommend a few other items:

I picked this up and cross-referenced everything I learned. It's basically a history/geography book like you'd have in school, but all about the Forgotten Realms Setting. It also came with a huge map so you can look up where places are.

R.A. Salvatore has a series that takes place in Neverwinter. Here's the first book:

A great Forgotten Realms Board Game:

And the newest Neverwinter series book's first book:

I think that book will be related to the MMO game coming soon.

And lastly, the coming-soon MMO game based in Neverwinter (could be terrible):

Thanks for the reply! I'm looking forward to getting my CD key and playing on PW.
I'll check that "history book" and hopefully I'll pick it up, and I've looked into the Neverwinter books and I'm definitely getting them.

I checked the upcoming MMO, and since there's still no gameplay available (right?) I can't judge it. Cheers!
