So had the urge to try out NWN after a while, haven't had it installed after migrating to win 8.

Posting this just for general enlightenment, many users will no doubt run into these.
Though if someone can shed light to resolution issue, feel free to help out.

- Installed just fine to C:/games, no problems.
- Crashed on launch, problems.
--- Tried launching as administrator directly from nwnmain.exe instead of the launcer. Immediate crash.
--- Renamed nwnmain.exe to nwnmaine.exe, launches just fine.

- Character creation, when customizing there's no character visible.
--- Started up with premade character, game starts, exited back to menu.
--- Went back to character creation, this time customization works.

- Widescreen resolutions are supported right away, 1920x1200 works fine, but stuff is really small.
--- With GPU scaling enabled and set to stretch to fill screen, lower resolutions still don't scale, leaving huge black borders.
--- Set the game to use high resolution text, so I can at least read stuff. Not perfect but works.
I use Windows 8.1 and haven't had any problems. My screen is 1280x968 60hz.

The problem is that NWN was designed to run perfectly fine with 800x600 resolution, with additional support for 1024x768, i.e. the high-resolution font. Even higher resolutions are just a pain because - as you said - everything becomes really, really small. The fact that the high resolution font also doesn't scale (it's a fixed size) also doesn't help.

My advice: play either with 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution; if widescreen works for you (it doesn't for me, everything's stretched horizontally and looks butt ugly), go for it.

Yeah, that's what I'd do, but it doesn't work for me.
I tried a couple of 1280 x something resolutions the game area is just a small box in the middle of the screen with big black borders.
I do have the GPU scaling options on in the AMD control panel and they do work in other games, just not with NWN.

I was a bit surprised to see widescreen resolutions working right off the box, especially as high as 1920x1200.

I had that very same problem a bit more than a week ago:

Seems like that's the fail point there. And no, catalyst control center doesn't have such override tick box.
The good thing is, the resolution isn't too bad on my 24" screen, perfectly usable with bigger text.
