I'm playing a human bard in the original campaign. My focus is strength (16+), but I have fair dex and int (14 both).

I'm on Khelgars vision quest, and want to drop Neeshka and do basic lock opening and trap disarming myself. The skill boosting inspiration will help. Should i cross class some rogue skills on a bard level, or take a rogue level instead?

Honestly, I wouldn't do either. However if you were to do one of the two, take at least 1 Rogue level and pick up the feat "Able Learner" - you would then be able to take full levels in the Rogue skills you want even when levelling up as a Bard.
Just want to add that Disable Device and Open Lock are Rogue skills, so they will be cross-classed (2 points for 1) and can only advance so far (1/2 of your max level), so basically being worthless for a Bard cause they will never be high enough to tackle chests and traps. If you want to do those skills, you will need to pick up a Rogue level to unlock them, and then like jimbo said, take Able Learner so you can raise them for 1 point during your Bard levels.

On a side note, Able Learner, in my opinion, is one of the best feats to pick up for just about any setup. Only pure Wizard's and Rogue's don't really need to take it, but it is great for multi-class builds if you want to keep your primary class abilities at max level while leveling other classes that may not use them.

I raised the question because in the NWN1 OC there is a bard companion who never seems to fail in opening locks. From what has been said here I would guess that her skills have been tweaked to make that possible.
