Fellow NWN1&2 players, I love Neverwinters nights and I was wondering is the new Neverwinter game any good? I saw some players give a bad review to the game because "if you like mmos stay away from this game", that "bad" review actually gave me hope, the game may be good after all.

Your expectation has already been coloured by third party 'reviews'... biased reviews. Yet here you are asking for more third party opinions, of which you will get more biased feedback. Why not do the smart thing and try for yourself? You would never ask a stranger to pick your own clothes or car, so why ask them to choose whether you like a game or not? Go for it.
If the reason you are looking at Neverwinter is, indeed, that you love NWN, don't bother. They have almost nothing in common. It would be like trying a hot dog because you love steak.

Neverwinter is an MMO. It's a glorified WoW clone. The Foundry is useless by any standard. If you LIKE MMOs give it a try. You may or may not like it but you certainly have nothing to lose.

If you are looking for NWN 3 you are going to hate it.

This is the problem.

I don't play NWN because the combat system is the best ever or something, it's because of the amazing customization and the power of the toolset.

Incidentally, I also play WoW and the guild I lead is rated in the top 0.5% of players.

If you like the idea of PWs in NWN and want to play an MMO, you could try Neverwinter. But the only thing it has in common with NWN is the setting. You could play any MMO at that point depending on your preferences. Personally, I love difficult and engaging group content so I play WoW as I've never seen or heard of another MMO that can top WoW's raids.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was wondering about.

Flawed analogy. The situation is more akin to reading reviews for a shirt or car prior to buying. Shirts are purely functional with minor fashion value, and an in person inspection prior to buying beats a review unless the review points out a latent defect. As for cars, you better believe I'd be checking reviews to make sure that the bloody thing starts, gets the mileage it claims, and flat out functions as promised before buying it, especially since me inspecting it without assistance is not likely to reveal any defects.

Games are more like cars than shirts in the fixed version of your analogy. Especially on PC, one is not able to do a physical inspection prior to buying, and the amount of money and time at stake, while not as much as with a car, is relatively high to the point that buying merely to "try it out" is akin to playing Russian Roulette with one's wallet and spare time.

Don't take things so literally. Nobody was talking about cars or shirts.

Right, except for the part where you used them in an analogy to dissuade someone from trying to get additional opinions on the game.

Give it a rest.

I enjoyed Dungeons and Dragons Online -- especially when playing with people I knew (I'm
more of a slow player, not a rush-through-it-as-fast-as-possible-player, which is what MMO players tend to do).

Also, Divinity: Original Sin has a level editor and co-op. It may scratch an itch you've got.
I tried Neverwinter for a couple days with a friend. Didn't like it. My friend stopped playing it too, so I'm guessing he didn't either. I'm not much for MMORPGs, so maybe I'm just a little inexperienced, but just walking into town, seeing like 20 people lining up to receive the same quests, and all jumping around WoW style with zero roleplaying ability is enough to turn me off. The quests are rather bland as well, though I never really had high expectations to begin with. Combat system is fluid and fast, but certainly does not have the same depth as Neverwinter Nights.

It's probably just the stereotypical MMO, but for me, compared to NWN, it's a completely different beast.
Background:
I've played MMOs extensively. When I first picked up Neverwinter I had not read any reviews.

Experience:
Neverwinter gameplay was choppy, bug-ridden, and entirely mediocre from both a general gaming as well as a MMO perspective. The FTP (free to play) aspect of the game was more liberal than some, more strict than others, yet the pressure to pay for various things was constant and annoying.

Bottom Line:
I played two days, then uninstalled it. It may have ultimately turned out to be a fantastic game but there was enough I couldn't stand that I wasn't willing to find out. Had the game come out in 2000 it may have held my attention. As it is, there are plenty of other games out there that didn't and don't annoy me as much and as such, Neverwinter bit the dust. YMMV
