I just recently purchased NWN 2 and had been playing around with what type of character I wanted to create. I had done the tutorial a number of times and had no issues. Two or three days ago, I began to get what I would describe as lag. I load my game and start to play, Everything seems to be fine and runs smoothly. As I continue to play, the whole game starts to slow down. I attempt to move the camera and it moves in jerks. I attempt to interact with an item and my character slowly moves to the object and it takes a second or two for the loot window to open. Everything just lags. It reminds me of the memory problems ESO had for a while. I've read and attempted the rebooting of the computer but get the same result. It works fine for a minute or two but then starts to lag. The only thing I can think of is I have NVIDIA and they just updated their drivers. Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, etc?

I think I'm having the same problem, the game worked well enough when i bought it (this last month or two i think), now when i try to move my character or do anything in-game the lag is pronounced. Makes combat tricky, not to mention unappealing to play.
Try lowering the shadow settings as they have the highest impact on performance if you haven't done this already.

You could also try to set the process affinity for the game. To make it easier you can follow this guide: https://neverwintervault.org/rolovault/projects/nwn2/nwn2other/213/index.html

Too many saves/temp saves can also seriously impact load times and performance in many games (old and more recent titles (Elex is one such case) ... Backup your saves, keep two most recent, and delete the others including auto/quick/temp.

Disable Threaded Optimization in your NVCPL.

In case you got an Intel board and an older generation i7 CPU disable Hyperthreading in BIOS and see whether it changes anything.

General advice: On Windows 10 you will want to disable SysMain (Superfetch) as this impacts overall performance of your OS and apps/games. (Win + R -> services.msc -> Enter -> SysMain -> Startup type: Disabled -> Service Status: Stop)

ive tried disabling the shadow settings, setting the process affinity as described, deleting unneccesary saves, Disabling Threaded Optimization in NVidia Control Panel, my intel board is less than a year old, but im having trouble with the last one, How exactly do i disable SysMain?
Exactly the way outlined in my previous post. Press Win + R key, in the search window type in: services.msc, press enter. The process explorer should open up and you should see a list of all process on your machine. Sort them by name, scroll down until you find SysMain - or, in case you still run an older Windows 10 version Superfetch, double-click the process and in the window that's popping up set the Startup type to disabled (dropdown -> Disabled) and finally you'll have to set the Service Status to disabled. Confirm all that by clicking on Ok and closing your process explorer. You don't have to restart your machine for changes to take effect.

If that's to complicated here is a guide with pictures to follow along:

No worries! Keep asking and i'll try my best to answer. :-)

In case you are referring to the post in the other topic: Opening the nwn2.ini file in Notepad, after making any changes to it, you will want to navigate to File -> Save As ... or press Strg + Shift + S -> Save as type ... -> All files (*.*) -> Save

Here is another thing you can try. Disable hibernate (or sleep mode). Here is a step-by-step:

Right-click on the Windows Logo
Click on Search
Enter cmd in the search panel
Select Run As Administrator in the right half of that window
At the command prompt type: powercfg.exe /hibernate off and press enter
Close the window

A reboot may be required and you'll be prompted if it is.

If you haven't tried restarting your computer, try doing so. I remember there's a bug in NWN2 that causes it to lag more and more depending on the time since your computer was last restarted! No joke. I believe it takes effect after only a day or two, as well, so you'll probably have the same problem in another 2 days.
Using this should solve the problem without needing to do anything else:
