My laptop ( i7 6700HQ, GTX 960m 4GB.) gets bad performance, but somehow better performance than my desktop.

My desktop: (i7 4790K, GTX 1070 8GB.) both have 12GB Ram and SSD's.

On my desktop the game's performance is terrible. I mean on the laptop it isn't great either, but at least it's smooth, on my desktop the performance and FPS is all over the place. I can turn settings to max, or to lowest, and it makes zero difference to the performance. Anyone else having this issue, any tips? My desktop can run DOOM with everything on max, but this 10 year old game somehow runs awful.

Do you have v-sync enabled?

I have tried turning it off and on, it doesnt seem to make any difference in performance. None of the settings seem to.

I have tried changing resolution, turning off/on all settings, everything to low, everything to medium, nothing changes the performance, it doesn't get better or worse.

Please keep in mind that this is not a performance issue. Your system is capable of running 10 NWN games at the same time. You should look into compatibility issues. Which operating system are you using? Did you try running the game in XP compatibility mode? Did you try windowed mode? Did you try disabling your firewalls and anti-virus programs for a short time?

There is also the Nvidia resolution problem i heard a while back about NWN2. If i remember, it involved running the Nvidia control panel and selecting "fixed resulution" or something like that. I hope someone will give better information about it.

Sorry, i couldnt help much. NWN2 is a great game tho. Definitely worth trying for a fix.
A lot of people have performance issues with this game, regardless of rig. A big percentage of reported issues seems to be shadows -- turn them off. But that won't be the whole story. You more than likely need to tweek it to your system. Start here.

10XX nvidia cards have some REAL REAL REAL bad drivers right now some newer games are reported having problems even.

That is life cycle of new hardware typically its best to wait.. and not be a first adapter.
(buy first out the gate)

The processor shouldn't matter much... considering we are talking technology that didn't exist back than...
same with video card

I been there done that (first adapting hardware) ... long long long ago in galaxy far away
I bought top of line video card about 600$ the thing overheated... rma ... overheated...
rma...
AGAIN

new hardware is not always the best bet.
the 10XX's at least don't seem to have hardware faults just software (driver) problems.
Have you rebooted your system any time recently? There's a timing bug that slows down the frame rate the longer your computer has been on. Rebooting it resets that.

Yeah I reboot once a day at the minimum. Drivers are all up to date.

I have a feeling it might be the fact that it's a 1070 and maybe the hardware is just "too new". The game is playable, but it def isnt ideal performance.

Also another poster mentioned a resolution issue? Does anyone know anything about that?
