Hello mortals!

Anyone else disappointed with the portraits in this game? They're just your character's face rendered in 3D. The drawn ones from NWN1 added flavour to your character. Different angles, the character looking in different directions, different types of scenery and colours.

It's like old school video game box art vs new ones. Back in the day someone with talent (usually) picked up a pencil and drew something that would pull you deeper into the game's world. Nowadays it's usually just a screenshot of the character. Some companies have legit box art though. Borderlands, Skyrim, Diablo 3 - among others - had covers that you can flip inside out for some a little more scenic.

It is easy enough to use the NWN1, or any other portraits for that matter.
You just need them in your portraits directory as .tga's

In the attached pic, my NPC & Zhjaeve are portraits from the net, & Elanee, Neeshka, & Qara are just from screen shots because I like them to match.

Thanks for bringing that up! I never knew that and I assumed the portraits were set in stone.
You save your portraits in Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\portraits.
If the portraits folder is not there, just make one.
Portraits have to be saved as .TGA, I make mine 253 x 400 but you can get away with 128 x 128.
You can name them anything you want.
Edit: Nearly anything you want. There is a companion named Fern in "A Fairy Tale" module & I just named her portrait fern.tga, and every fern plant in the game had her face on the leaves. So your portrait folder works like the override folder.

In game, bring up the character sheet of who you want to change & double left click on their portrait to bring up the portraits.

I just like to be able to see my options at a glance.
I usually just use quickspell for companion casters.
One more question. How can I join this group? :))

Seriously, the outfits look amazing.

Thank you very much. I will try them at first chance. Just quick question. Can I use them in expansions?

Yes, you just put them in your documents\NWN2\override folder. They will work with all expansions & player made modules.

Trying to figure out how to use some of the overrides, do I just put all the files from the new model and face and hair models in the override folder and that will work in the original chapters? After getting used to the CEP for NWN1 I have been disappointed in the armor choices available in NWN2.

Yes, and NWN2 allows you to use sub directories, so you can keep your override folder neat. Having subfolders for head, hair, or armor mods .

Armor Mods that replace existing assets, like Xaltar's Sorceress Robe, will be available in the OC. But most require you to add them with the debug console, or a save game editor. Heads and Hair will be available at Character creation in the OC. You will need a GFF editor, or the Toolset to change OC companion heads or hair.
When playing User made modules, anything in a Hak pack will override anything in your override folders with the same model name.

Charlie's appearance changer will allow you to use the best of what's there.

Here's how my override folders look:

Just be careful not to have any files with the same name in any subfolders in your override, or things will not behave as you expect.
NWN2 is less popular than NWN1 so less custom content really

NWN1 is much older so a lot of old outdated hard to find stuff
