It worked fine through the first parts of OC. But now I can't use the mouse for moving my party. Cursor is fine and moves as directed by mouse. However a click on the ground does not do anything now. Mouse works fine on any dialog selection or selecting NPCs and selectable items (like chests, signposts, etc.). In fact, I can sort of navigate a bit by selecting things in the direction I want to travel.

I tried flipping that hardware_mouse parameter in the ini files, but that caused the cursor to fail to show up at all. I tried changing that option that refers to vsynch, but that seemed to do nothing.

Any ideas to try?

Oops! This was a brainfart. I had somehow changed it from "exploration mode" to "character mode". Dunno what the mouse is for in that mode, but not moving around, apparently.

If someone would post some words of encouragement (or point out how stupid I am), I would be happy to mark your post as the answer to my question.

I'll opt for the encouragement, and give a little tidbit. In the options are separate settings for each of the camera modes, and you can activate click-to-move in character mode too, if you like. In fact you should try out the different options in each of the modes, which may make them more useful in different situations even if you general default to a particular one. I usually use exploration mode, too, but I occasionally use the others in specific instances.

You 'da man! Actually I've played this game before, a few years ago. I assume I mastered the camera modes at the time. But my head is full of mush and I can't remember abstract things for more than a month or so. I do recall that I dislike the movement, camera angles, etc in this game very much. It always seems like a lot of work to face what i want to face and see what I want to see. Characters bump into each other and block each other. Feels claustrophobic.

Anyhow, thanks again.
