Hello!

I've run into a pretty irritating problem. In Act 3, when traveling to the Ruins of Arvahn after meeting with a special dragon, I receive a message of telling me of an encounter on the road and right after it starts loading, the game brings me back to the main menu with the following error message :

"Could not load Module. Module file may be corrupt or it was created using a newer version of the toolset and/or game resources."

I'm running of course the GoG version. I have no mods installed, I've tried re-installing the game, repairing the game, loading from previous save games, traveling to the Ruins from other locations but it still doesn't work.

I'm starting to think the special encounter itself might be the problem. Checking on FAQs, it's an encounter with pixies not related to the story.

Would there be a way to, somehow, teleport myself via a console command directly to the Ruins of Arvahn without the encounter? Or would there be another solution I do not know about to fix that "Could not load module" issue?

Thank you!

According to GameBanshee Guide and my memory, that part was in ACT 2, not 3. If you are having this issue in ACT3 and have not met the pixes yet, that might be the part of the problem.

Sorry I could not help much, but you may see where you are according to this guide.
Low disk space on C: can cause the error, too.

Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately, I did not encounter the pixies in Act 2 because they show up the second time you visit the area, but I only went there once.

As for my disk space, I have around 20 gb left, which should be enough.

I'm starting to think the game tries to load the encounter but fails to because I am in Act 3 and not Act 2.

When I look at the location tags to teleport myself using the DM console command, I can use the Illefarn tag to teleport to the area, but it still gives me the same mistake, maybe because it, again, tries to load the pixie encounter. I wonder if it'd be possible to teleport to the Riverguard Keep, then transition to the ruins this way, but unfotunately I have not found a command to teleport to a specific area without loading its module first.

I also tried teleporting to West Harbor directly, but again it's only an area within the 3000_Neverwinter_A3 module.
Anyone know by any chance how to teleport to a specific area?

I'm starting to think my game's kaput...and so close to the end too. :P

"Crash on transition" section might be of some help.

Alas, I've tried them all but it does not work.

Every worst news, in my save files, I opened the 2400_Illefarn_Ruins archives and tried to open the file within but WinRar tells me the file is corrupted. That'd be the reason. Since it's tied to my save, I believe there is no way to repair it.

The thing is, looking on GameBanshee, I only need to use the Song Portal in the ruins to get to West Harbor. There is nothing specific to Act 3 in the Illefarn Ruins so I could just skip it and teleport right to West Harbor if possible. Act 3's West Harbor is just an area within the 3000_Neverwinter_A3 module, yet I have a not found a way to get there.

I wonder if it'd be possible to use the toolset to add a waypoint to West Harbor in, say, the Circle of the Mere. I'll check this out.

I have the same problem as well. The only difference is that it happens when I try to return to Crossroads Keep after finishing the "Alliance with Ironfist" quest in Act 3.

I can get to the ruins just fine and travel anywhere except CK. I don't think that the issue is with a "road encounter" or whatever, since there should be no road encounters at this point (I got through the pixie one just fine in Act 2). I think the module for CK really got corrupted somewhere during the time I was on mountain fighting a dragon (I saved and loaded a lot and frequently during the fight, so maybe this has something to do with it?). And in your case the module for the ruins got corrupted most likely.

From the link that you got above (the "transition troubleshooting one") there's also troubleshooting called "Corrupted Module". Did you try anything from there?

I will try it myself later, just don't have the time for now. And I will also try to reform the gith sword without going to CK but I highly doubt that it will end well, since you have to go to CK again no matter what later in the game...

The game worked completely fine with no issues whatsoever, had a few crashes here and there but nothing serious. And then this thing happened.. I can completely understand how annoying it is to get such an error when you're basically at the end of the campaign. Just want the closure))

I hope we'll find how to fix this somehow

Ok, so I've got good news: I did actually managed to fix this with a very weird and unorthodox method.

None of the options for fixing corrupted modules actually worked. It is a problem with a corrupted save in the specific module (CK in my case, Ruins in yours). I found this out the same way you found yours - by unpacking the module zip archive in the MyDocuments/Neverwinter Nights 2/saves folder. The unpacking process told me that the file for CK (Crossroads_KeepA2) was corrupted. This was not the case for all other archives, they all unpacked without issues.

The specific file that is corrupted is "-", it is located inside the archive and the one the program tells you is corrupted. So what you need to do is to replace that file with an uncorrupted one from any other archive (like NeverwinterA3 do example). This is a short version, I'll explain all the steps that I did:

1) Copied the archive (Crossroads_KeepA2) to my desktop.
2) Unpacked it. (ignoring the "file is corrupted" note)
3) Deleted the "-" file from the unpacked folder.
4) Did steps 1-2 for the NeverwinterA3 archive. (I used it because that is where I was in the game at the moment).
5) Copied the "-" file from NWA3 to the unpacked folder for CKA2.
6) Packed the CKA2 back into a zip archive with a new "-" file taken from NWA3.
7) Deleted BOTH Crossroads_KeepA2 archive and the 1KB .sav file (or .save, sorry don't remember, but it's size is 1KB) for Crossroads_KeepA2 archive from the saves folder in MyDocuments/Neverwinter Nights 2.
8) Transferred the new CKA2 zip archive created from step 6 in place of the old one.

I the launched the game and it worked))) I could travel to crossroads keep without getting the "Module is corrupted error". The keep itself was not the same like from my last savefile but I did managed to travel there from any other location, and I didn't care at this point since I just want to finish the game. The reason why you need to delete both the archive and the .sav file in step 7 is because for whatever reason the .sav file still didn't allow me to travel to CK.

After I reformed the Gith sword the script for Nevalle worked just fine and he transported me to the keep road to fight the reaver and golems. The scripts for Aldanon talking about the tome and Bishop offering to track Ammon Jerro worked as well. Only the keep location itself looked like I've just arrived there for the first time, lol, but as I've said - I don't care.

So you can do the same but with a Ruins archive instead of CK one and travel to the the location I think. It should be even easier since the ruins don't have any plot stuff at this point.

IMPORTANT WARNING: DO NOT, AND I REPEAT, DO NOT save your game while in the module that you've replaced! Once it worked for me the first time I immediately tried to save, the game crashed and my save file disappeared completely. Luckily I had another one from the same point in the game, or otherwise I would be screwed((( I checked the areas that were in the CKA2 module and never saved in any if them. Once I've got to the other module (Crossroads_Keep_Siege, or smht like this) I was able to save my game without issues.

P.S. I do not claim that this is the best way to handle this issue, for all I know my OC may be completely screwed now, but I just want to finish the game at this point and if I'll want to start a new one, I'll just reinstall NwN.

I hope this method will help you finish the game, good luck!
Here's my fix for the exact problem
1. go into the folder of the exact save, ex: Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\saves\000000 - quicksave
2. delete "2400_Illefarn_Ruins.sav"
3. Launch game - load game - trigger pixie scene
4. Run go to ruins (triggers ruins scene)
5. go to portal - it just works

update: I had the same issue with going to Port Last in Act 3
Same solution worked, just delete "2200_Port_Llast.sav" instead
