I'm playing through the NWN1 expansions as a first time ever sorcerer and don't know what I should be spending feats on. I picked weapon focuses as my first 2 cause I usually spend first few levels swinging a lot because I don't have a lot of spells and don't like resting. But now I'm not really sure and the "recommendation" is saying potion making?
'Luck of Heroes' is nice at the start. It gives +1 on all saves and can only be taken during character creation

If you get hit a lot you might consider 'Dodge' and/or 'Toughness'. 'Combat Casting' will help prevent your spells from getting interrupted

'Spell Focus' is nice if you use a lot of spells that require saves. Evocation would probably be the first choice for most sorcerers

'Spell Penetration' is useful if creatures with Spell Resistance are giving you trouble

The Rod of Frost can be useful at the start. Although the damage is low, you never miss.
The "recommend" button in Neverwinter Nights is nigh useless, and makes terrible suggestions. Brew Potion is a horrible feat that you should never take.

gnarbrag's suggestions are good, but I'd also add that the metamagic feats get very useful for Sorcerers once you get to higher level. Extend spell is very handy, Empower and Maximize are great for getting more mileage out of your spells known. Still spell can save your life.
Well, maybe i didnt completely ruin my character yet. Thanks for the suggestions!

You've already taken weapon focus twice, so that's two feats completely wasted. Fortunately Sorcerers aren't too feat-intensive, and so long as you maxed out your charisma (or at least close to max) you should be fine even with a couple wasted feats.
Yeah, Weapon Focus is better suited for maxing out performance of an already good melee character. In fact, I mostly only bother on a Fighter because you can follow up with Weapon Specialization.

gnarbrag pretty much mentions all the feats that are good for a starting Sorcerer. Metamagic and the Crafting feats are good at higher levels.
vsommers12 if you are going to play a spell caster you must rest. It is not a case of you like to rest its you NEED to rest. Why are you getting hit a lot? My Sorcerer always stays as far back has possible. Also I learn defensive spells along with my offensive spells. Your henche should be taking the hits not you.

PS. What skills did you put your Skill Points into?

First off I prefer the IE type games where my caster is a NPC just for support. Thought I'd try it here because NWN1 is a game I most likely won't replay because I don't like controlling only 1 character and wanted to play something new. Dorna is my henchmen for traps but she doesnt do that too well. I buff her and my familiar and they do fine enough clearing trash I don't need to cast spells. Sometimes I like to buff myself and start swinging though. Call it role playing but my character has backstory of liking to drink then hitting things with staves.
Dorma is a Rogue/ Ceric unless you tell her otherwise. After ch1 she sucks at traps.

Dorna has deeply unfavorable multi-classing. So does Xanos, for that matter. Unless you explicitly tell them to focus on one of their classes to the exclusion of the other, they'll end up just sucking at both.

It's fine to occasionally hit stuff, but you'll never actually be good at it as a Sorcerer. It's not worth sinking a feat into it.

One of the funniest ways to be good in melee as a Sorcerer is to cast stoneskin, death armor, fire shield, and acid sheath. Enemies who hit you have their damage absorbed by stoneskin, then take massive retaliation damage.

Not giving anyone a chance are you Darvin? btw that is 'Elemental Shield' not fire shield. Yes it is fun to watch enemies kill themselves trying to kill you. lol

I gave Dorna and Xanos their chance, and they blew it with unfavorable multi-classing :-P

As for the chance of hitting stuff, do the math. Sorcerers with their low base attack bonus have trouble hitting stuff, and the higher your level the bigger the difference gets. When you actually calculate their chances of hitting stuff past about level 12, it gets depressing. Go ahead and do it if you want; I've dipped a level of barbarian as a Sorcerer in SoU just for the heck of it, but I wouldn't recommend it since it will just be a 1-level handicap when you start getting to higher levels and your attack bonus just doesn't keep up.

It's called Fire Shield in pen and paper, hence why I slipped and called it that.
For me Xanos blew it when we had our first fight in the crypt. He stood there and bluff himself while the rats killed me. some times I wonder if the dev teams had sny players on them.

I'm playing for the story mostly and to reflect on this time in RPG history. Just got to the oasis part of the interlude and it has been a very good adventure so far. In this type of game I've been enjoying a caster more than in the games where I can control a party. Easier to learn when there is only one character to think about. This playthrough will make it easier to add a caster to my next BG/IWD runs. Yes, I have played them with only Imeon as my caster in BG2 and I know I didn't use her correctly. But at least she disarmed traps unlike dumbass dorna.
Oh and thanks for all the tips. I see every time I level up I can pick different spells, so now I'm trying the buff and shields route and as long as I can progress I'll have fun with it. I have some items with offensive charges like fireball and MM so I can probably get by with this half-assed melee sorc.

Does Dorna get better at traps in SoU or HoU or should i put some levels in rogue now? Traps are starting to get annoying and she isnt doing a damn thing.
