I have recently installed NWN1 on my laptop. (The attached is a screenshot of my system specs.)

Problem:
I load the game and try to leave the prologue to enter chapter 1, when I do the game crashes to the desktop. I have installed the critical update, ran as admin, altered compatability settings. I have even unlocked all chapters and loaded into chapter one. After the conversation with the guy that runs up to you I go to the door to leave and talk to Aribeth and the game crashes to desktop. I have also tried making a new character and starting in chapter 1 and doing the same thing but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been waiting a long while just to play this game. Thank you in advance.

I can't help you with Windows 10, but there is a caveat on the game page:
"Please be advised that Windows 10 operating system will receive frequent hardware driver and software updates following its release; this may affect game compatibility"

Also, you posted an attachment with your Windows product ID plainly visible. Remove it!

So the best thing would be to install an older OS I am thinking?

Or scout around for an old/er computer and keep the one you have as is for work/whatever. NWN is an old game, so you shouldn't have any issues with it on a Vista, or even XP machine. You could use such a machine, maybe a laptop, for older games. Only you know your circumstances, and what would suit you best. Windows 10 is not the OS to be playing old games on, though.

You can Oracle VM Virtual Box and create an XP virtual machine. VMs give you great flexibility regarding hardware options.

Yes I was just about to ask that. I already started installing XP on VirtualBox and going to go that route. lol Thank you all for your time. :)
