Hi - first things first: I still have the olds disc versions of NWN2 and it's addons. It lags like hell when I try to play Storm of Zehir (the only campaign I have yet to play, didn't try the others yet as I recently installed it after years).

So, my game is not from gog.com - has anyone had similar issues with the gog version or is this version somewhat community patched to newer systems?

I remember there being a setting equivalent to NWN's "shiny water" that helped it out a ton (it may have even been a water setting). I'd recommend doing some setting changes and turn everything off and low and see if that helps. If so, then start turning things on until you figure out what's causing the problem.

And, of course, make sure you're updated on drivers and you have system requirements.
In my ATI card mi have to turn off Morphological Filter when playing most old games, NWN included, otherwise everything get blurred and or unplayable

Setting the Anti aliasing to the minimum setting also help sometimes

With an nvidia card i am not sure, but disabling all advanced graphical option should help

NWN2 was very demanding on graphics cards when released. It runs easily on most desktop cards but may still have issues on netbooks, especialy with relatively slow Intel graphics chips.

It also had several updates (the last of which removed the SecuRom disk check, which itself slowed the game). Unfortunately the IGN NWN2 patches page is down (though it may come back later) so unless you've kept copies of them, you'll be stuck with an outdated version (though GOG's version of NWN2 is fully patched and includes the only DRM-free version of Mysteries of Westgate). Edit: from another thread, it looks like patches can still be downloaded from ftp://ftp.atari.com/patches/nwn2/

However you really need to post full details of the system you are trying to run NWN2 on, before anyone can offer helpful advice.

If memory serves, shadows were one of the main causes of stuttering/lag. If you've not fiddled with the shadow settings yet, try that.
Ok, I'll try shadows, water and anti-aliasing^^

It can't be the notebook problem though as I run it on a desktop pc - should have mentioned that, my bad ;-)

You can also use the new vault, most of them are there (just click on 'Patches' in the upper right hand corner)
Storm of Zehir lags for me when I'm in Samarach, where there seems to be a lot going on, but is better in most other places. Samarach seems to be the most intensive location of all of the campaigns. But the Client Extension helps reduce jitter among all of its other fixes, especially when moving, and you might not have to reduce your graphics settings.
