I solved an issue and thought I might leave it here in case anyone runs into the same thing. I had just completed a SoU campaign and started a new HoU campaign with the same character. Everything seemed to function as normal until one day I started the game up and every HoU save I had was missing! All saves from SoU were still present and accounted for. I checked the saves folder and the HoU saves still appeared, but no matter what I did (tried many many things) these saves would not appear in-game.

Finally, I just started deleting files from the folders and seeing if anything made a difference; this gave me the solution. It turns out that every HoU save was actually an overwritten SoU save; it was the same character so I didn't see anything wrong with continuing to use the same save files. This overwriting seems to have resulted in a "leftover" SoU file called "XP1-Chapter 2.sav" hanging around in every HoU save folder, and this file caused the game not to recognize the folder as a legitimate save file. Just deleting these files caused the saves to appear again, and everything functioned normally.

So... I would recommend creating new save files if continuing a SoU character into HoU. Not sure if this bug occurs with any other save-overwriting-across-modules situation.

p.s.... Gog cloud save sync might reinsert the troublesome files after you delete them, so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the warning.
I had a similar problem, where the game bizzarely put Chapter 1 data into my Chapter 2 saves, the major difference in my case being that these where saves from the base game. I appreciate your posting of this, because without it I'd be screwed.

I am not exactly sure what you are saying here.

You used the same save name? and that overwrote previous save? Well that is expected behavior.

If want separate saves, you use separate names.

I have played 1000+ hours of NWN 1, and never have had issues with saves over-writing previous ones except when using the same save name, in which case that is the expected/desired behavior.
Thanks a lot, it helped!
