The other day I requested the cd keys to play online, and followed the instructions I was given when I got them the next day, but I still can't play online.

When I try to connect to Gamespy, it will connect, after it gives me a message that says:

Unable to connect to master server, some multiplayer services may not be available.

After that I can see the server listings, but if I try and connect to any of them it will wait a few seconds and then say:

Connection Error: Your player name has been refused by the server.

Any ideas?

It is a bit hard to say what you did or did not do.

However...I can start listing many standard things.

You installed the 1.69 critical rebuild patch right?


The master server could be down some times. It is not common but it happends. Usually it gets back up pretty soon...so that is temporary.

Your name not getting acknowledged by the server seems to be another problem too. You made an account there I made. You could try just restarting the whole game...


Also judging from the fact that you had booth of theese errors you don't suspect there could be something wrong with your internet connection?

If you try making a direct connect to a server....is it the same?

Also...note that while the master server is down you do not see the servers list...but you can still direct connect to servers if you know their IP or connect to servers on your favourites list...

You are on WIndows Vista or 7?

I've tried it on different days, so I don't think it's actually the server being down, though it is around the same time. I'm not sure about the internet connection. It could be an allowed port issue, the internet connection is a wireless network that is new.

When I try a direct connection, it will wait a few seconds and then say the server timed out.

And yeah, it's fully patched.

Also check your antivirus/Firewall settings to allow Inbound/Outbound traffic for NWN. I ran into an issue similar to this and everything was set right, except the allowance of traffic for NWN both ways.
